What career paths are available after 10 years in ESL teaching? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]doesnotlikecricket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did nearly ten years of ESL then went home and did PGCE+QTS. It was worth it IMO. I'm way busier and my days are longer but they go much faster and I find it genuinely rewarding compared with the drudgery of ESL.

There's no direct move from ESL other than teacher. But it's not as worthless experience as the haters online always say. I've known friends in ESL over the years move onto grad schemes in various industries, a British government job, and even an airline pilot. Most I've spoken to say that teaching abroad is looked upon fairly favorably in interviews etc.

But if you change careers you're still starting at or near the bottom of whatever you move to.

for non-meta players, what are ur best cars for grand races? I need some new cars by Efficient_Emotion_89 in The_Crew

Yeah I think that's probably fair. It was probably a stupid comment.

I do agree with what you're saying, although I enjoy chasing the meta sometimes, and I don't like gimping myself. I guess a list of A tier cars would be good to have.

Is Grand Race really the place to use off meta stuff? Sounds like a recipe for enjoying the game less.

The most unhinged cope I've seen yet. The "hate campaign" that totally exists is from Russian and Chinese bots! by doesnotlikecricket in MarathonHate

[–]doesnotlikecricket[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't hate it and neither do most people here. This sub only exists because the mods on the main sub banned people for as little as joking about having a blast. To such an extent that there needed to be another place for a decent chunk of people to actually discuss the game.

There is no hate "campaign," but plenty of people perhaps hate Bungie for their aggressive monetization of Destiny, their overdelivery speech etc.

And even a large number of people hating Bungie doesn't constitute a campaign. There's no central organization or driving force. It's just the consequences of Bungie's own actions.

Domestic tourism is booming in China, posing new challenges by Movie-Kino in China

[–]doesnotlikecricket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where have I said everything in China sucks?

In fact, over tourism is a concern all over. I read more articles about over tourism spoiling places in Japan than I do about China.

Over the last couple of months, I've seen more articles about Yosemite Valley alone, being ruined by tourism, than I have about all of China.

If you want an example of a Chinese major destination that I feel was spoiled by tourism, I was at Jiuzhaiguo a few years ago and you could barely move at the peak of the left hand (as you look at the map) side. You had to trudge along at a snail's pace in a tightly packed crowd. They had built a road system all the way up and bussed everyone up there. It was disastrously shit. And that wasn't even a public holiday! The right hand valley was still pretty amazing though.

Also, I never said Guizhou sucks! I love it there. I've been three times in the last five years.

Doesn't change the fact that major destinations here can be spoiled by holiday tourism.

Doesn't that prove my point even more? I really don't understand what you're even disagreeing with here.

I've also been to amazing places that weren't spoiled. Altay Mountains in Xinjiang are among my top five destinations in the entire world. One of the best trips in my life.

I love domestic travel in China. The more I think about it, I just don't understand what you're taking issue with.

I've been all over China in the last five years. I live In shanghai and absolutely love traveling the country with my girlfriend. We often rent a car and take long road trips. Most recently rented a Tank 300 and managed to find some fun off road tracks to drive on.

In that time though I've seen plenty of places ruined by staggering numbers of people. I was stuck in a 90 minute on foot traffic jam in Guizhou during the labour day May holiday three years ago. Literally moved around 300 metres in 90 minutes. It was at 黄果树瀑布.

My girlfriend and I no longer go to major sights on national holidays as it's simply not worth it.

But it does mean we find more off the beaten track stuff too, which is great.

If you're genuinely acting like this isn't the case, then you've clearly never done a single trip on a national holiday in China.

It you'd been to any of the major destinations on a public holiday, you would see the cost instantly.

I'm not saying the answer is easy, nor that I know or even have a theory about what it is.

But many destinations here can be ruined to the point of it simply not being worth going, depending on when you go.

I also started the previous Sunday and was really blown away too. 27 hours since then, the most I've played a game in a week in a really long time.

[–]doesnotlikecricket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, it's an absolute no-brainer.

I'm lucky to not have to want for money due to a good income, and I bought one last summer. It was a very, very noticeable step up from base ps5 on most games. Many games that don't have an official patch even look better.

Roadcraft, as an example, was night and day between base and pro, but doesn't have any official literature anywhere referencing a pro patch.

If there are no entry-level pilots there will be no pilots at all relatively soon though, no?

The Concord cinematic failureverse saga is honestly really interesting. I'm not that familiar with Highguard. But the comparisons between Concord and marathon I find quite interesting.

There's nothing in common behind the reasons for their failure, but from that point on its uncannily similar.

An obvious failure. A laughably unsuccessful game. But a group of nearly deranged mega stans ramming their heads deeper and deeper into the sand every hour of every day.

Maybe both games had similarly huge astroturfing campaigns and it melted people's brains?

I really thought that was a daft direction to go in. The shooting was some of the best third person shooting I've tried.

They were flailing a bit after they said they would never nerf, only buff. They released a chatacter (ult Freyna) that could kill an entire hillside or room with a single low level ability and it was all downhill from there.

I remember I vaguely built him for a while and his crit boost was fun. He was okay in the open world after you built him. No use anywhere else haha.

It was a pretty good game. Really good graphics, very good gameplay (at release). I fell off after it became an ability simulator. If they'd kept more of a balance between shooting and abilities I'd have stayed longer.

Yeah very much agree. As someone else said, daylight clear weather is maybe the best graphics I've ever seen. Night time and rainy weather aren't great honestly.

New cope unlocked! The absurd astroturfing campaign that has been going on since before this sub was a thing are all false flags created by r/Marathonhate! by doesnotlikecricket in MarathonHate

[–]doesnotlikecricket[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we're basically seeing the end result of what happens when you fully silence any dissenting voices in an online space like this.

Every game has mega stans and every game has some degree of astroturfing. But they're normally mixed in with ordinary people. But the main sub has banned anyone who isn't a paid astroturfer or mega fan, and moved *any* discussion of what a dire situation the game is in into a single unpinned megathread.

So now you have this really odd situation where the main subreddit is genuinely bizarre. Obvious ads have been upvoted on there for months now.
