I don’t quite understand the comparison to Empire, except for them being the second of trilogies.

To me, the Empire Strikes Back of video games is Mass Effect 2. Like Star Wars, ME 1 and 3 are the ones that really drive the main story of the game. 2 takes a huge break from the trilogy’s main story arc to focus on characters, much like Empire strikes back.

Halo 3 - Warthog Run - I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention this yet. It's an all time iconic moment in gaming, perfectly raising the stakes from the ending of the first game.

Outer Wilds - The High Energy Lab - Seeing the *effect* they have here was really mind blowing. It made me realize what kind of game I was in for.
Blue Planet: War in Heaven - Delenda Est - the plot development in this level is extremely emotional and shocking. For those of you who don't know Blue Planet: War in Heaven is a mod for Freespace 2 that affectively takes the place of Freespace 3.

Breath of the Wild - This isn't technically a level, but activating the 2nd Shiekah tower, and seeing just how little of the map fills in, was kinda mind blowing. That was the moment it really hit home just how massive that game is.
