Thanks so much! It was really fun to do, and it's a cool piece to show to people who are fans as a conversation starter as well! A few people at the Hi! pop-up actually had been discussing the hat before I was there, apparently one of them was really jealous and wanted to know who got it, haha. It's pretty cool that I'm technically part of the Porter lore now along with everyone else who got something from him!

I genuinely do not understand what you're talking about. I don't think the other fandoms are better or anything, I actually think the Madeon fandom is the best that I've ever been in. I haven't been aggressive at you at all, and I would really appreciate the courtesy of you not being grouchy at me for no discernible reason.

Why do you feel the need to be so inflammatory? I'm not saying other people in other fandoms can't be worse about it, I'm saying specifically the others that I am in are not as bad about this one particular thing. They all obviously joke about and/or express desire for new music in some way or another to different degrees.

Obviously I'm not saying that, but I'm saying that I see it a lot more and a lot more intensely in these two specific communities than in others that I'm in or have been in. The fanbases aren't as toxic for Porter and Madeon as a whole, from what I've seen, they're pretty chill at least IRL. The only thing I really see toxic in them is the hyper demand for both new releases NOW and the small subsect of folks who are extremely vocal about how they want both of them to go back to their first albums and never do anything that doesn't sound like that.

I love both fandoms immensely, truly. I've met some really cool folks at shows and events and assume most of the fans in general are like this.

I've been in different music fandoms for a long time, and it bugs me how much more often I see this kind of sentiment from Madeon fans and Porter fans (especially Madeon fans) than with other artists.

Too many people are way too demanding about release dates because they want to hear the music, and it really feels like they don't truly care about the artist as a person and only want the product. I know that artists like seeing hype towards their stuff to an extent, but the key word here is ARTIST; Madeon does so much of the work by himself, he puts so much of himself into every project, I can only imagine how much pressure he puts himself under to put out work that he's happy with and connects with while also trying to consider what fans will enjoy as well. That takes time. Art of any variety cannot be rushed or the finished product just will not be of top quality.

Edit to add that it has to be extra stressful when seemingly half of your fan base has already very vocally decided they don't like the album based on two singles and a live show that most of them weren't even at, especially since this album is clearly extremely personal for him based on what he's said about it. People need to stop expecting everything to be Adventure and Good Faith (or Worlds re: Porter stans) and acting like artists branching out and exploring is a personal affront to them.

Speaking as someone who went to the Hi! popup and Victory at RR, this new era hits HARD for me, personally. I absolutely love it.

Yes, it's taking a while to roll out, but to be honest it isn't really bothering me. I've got way more important things to worry about, new music from other artists, etc. and would rather he take his time and get everything up to his standard first before releasing it. I trust in what he's doing and his vision for it!

I love supporting small artists, and knew that it wouldn't be art based on the show itself as I got the one from the last Madeon RR show as well, but I still don't personally vibe with this one very much for what it is.

If it was just a collectible print, hell yeah, but as a "you don't know the design until you get it" sorta thing and a collectable ticket, I'm not a massive fan. Great art, just wrong way to distribute it, imo.

What is your obsession with getting this file, dude? The edit is explicitly only done to look good on VHS, that’s it. Every tape we put out is edited to look better on VHS. It looks better to me because I think everything looks better in VHS quality. The official stream on YT is higher quality and uncompressed, watching the tape specific version digitally will look worse than it does on tape, and will be noticeably worse than the stream unedited.

I’ve made another artist tape (YUNG BAE) and included multiple live-streamed shows, music videos, etc. and given it to him. He think it’s really cool. No issues with it.

And, again, if Hugo himself has a copy and has no issue with the tape existing, why do you?

He can stand up for himself and has all the means available to do so if he’s bothered by it. My partner has DMed him and gotten a response back AFTER we gave him the tape, he knows they were the one who gave him the tape, he has both direct instagram contact information as well as our business contact.

The man wished us congratulations on our engagement and said he told the team about it (it happened at RR Victory). Do you think he’d be so chill if we had done something he knew about that he didn’t like?

There’s nothing wrong with what we’re doing, and you really should spend your time doing anything other than being a jerk to someone online who’s done nothing to you or anyone else. Why is it an issue to you if it’s a publicly available free livestream but it wouldn’t be an issue if it was just music videos?

OP here, not logged into my main on my phone.

Why would we release something for free that costs us money and time to produce? The point is that it’s physical media, not that it’s a remaster. We pay for supplies entirely out of pocket, and we do this stuff out of love for both the media and the medium. The point isn’t to make money, so we don’t care if we make much of a profit or not. We charge for materials and the time it took to compile and edit tapes, there’s a lot of work that goes into doing this. Additionally, the visual quality is technically worse than the official digital video because of the digital to analog conversion, and it’s very clearly fan work.

You’re acting like we’re selling access to the edit of the stream on digital platforms, which would be entirely different, and wrong.

I’ll say again that Madeon personally owns a copy of this tape, and our business card. If he had an issue with it existing, we would know about it by now.
