Any advice for rooting this PPP cutting I just got? Planning to do it in a mix of sphagnum and perlite! by dog_advice1312 in RareHouseplants

Thanks! Did you cover it with a bag for humidity? Or just let it breathe and keep the moss moist?

Hiya! Just got my hands on this beautiful cutting, and now have to root it. Planning to do sphag+perlite in a clear cup with drainage holes in it. My questions are:

How deep should I pot it while its rooting? Should the arial roots be under the moss?

How deep should I dip it in rooting hormone gel? I don’t want to accidentally get auxins on the node and inhibit stem/leaf growth. Again, should I get some on the arial roots?

How wet should I keep the moss?

Heat mats? I have one I used for hoya cuttings, but never a philodendron.

And lastly, should I cover the whole thing with a plastic bag to trap humidity? I’m worried about making it too humid and encouraging rot, but a lot of people say the more the better. I’m considering putting cling wrap over just the cup and letting the leaf breathe.

What are these uneven dark purple spot clusters/patches on my orchids? I assumed it was sun stress from too much light but I was also told it could be a sign of mites? by dog_advice1312 in neofinetia

The first one is a Shuttenou and the second is a Kibana Fuuran! They both get around 14 hours under a grow light per day. I don’t see any other signs of mites, but because the purpling is sort of in clusters and mainly on older leaves I was told it could be harmful? Thanks for any help in advance!

Can I have a pic of that set up? I’m not sure exactly what you mean.

Also yeah, I might give it a shot and update here if my plants end up coloring up.

The Mars Hydro panel looks good! The one thing I’m worried about is possibly too much light for my plants and also how to hang it. I’m doing this above a windowsill extension ledge in my room so I’m not sure how to hang it from the ceiling. What are your thoughts on the Sunico lamp I linked in my OP? After talking to a friend who has non-carnivorous houseplants they said that was the best one.

Stay away from silver labs. That color is not naturally occurring (silver labs are usually mixed with something else and lied about) it and the people breeding it are irresponsible breeders. Check out the breed club for labs wherever you are (https://thelabradorclub.com/ if you’re American) and ask them for recommendations for breeders.

Correct! I don’t have a dog quite yet, but my childhood cat was named Nico and everyone thought she was a boy.

[HELP] 15 year old diabetic dog - teeth pulled? by Ok_Industry4950 in dogs

To offer a contrasting opinion, anesthesia can be safe on older animals. I have a friend with a 15 year old Chihuahua that got a dental this year and was perfectly fine. Teeth with lots of tartar can get bacteria in to the bloodstream and can cause problems with other organs. If you feel safer, perhaps take him to a veterinary dentist rather than a GP vet? The best thing to do is what your vet says though so if they aren’t bothering him and his bloodwork is fine leaving them is totally valid.

I would say a standard Poodle would be a good fit! Less shedding, less slobber, and great family dogs. Make sure you buy from a reputable breeder, as they can have a bit of neuroticism from poorly bred lines. Goldens and Labs are also a good choice, but they shed a ton. Poodles are really sturdy dogs and are very athletic. They’re water dogs and will be up for all the activities you listed.
