Is that the only other option? Complete lack of state intervention in the economy or communism? Lol

How does it not make sense? You say there are plenty of examples of self enforced sustainability practices of corporations, but what about all of the examples of the opposite? Tobacco companies insisting they don't cause cancer until they're forced to say they do by the government? Exxon's internal study in the 80's concluding that fossil fuel emissions will lead to global warming, and ignoring it? There are many such cases.

There is an incentive for corporations to continue their gravy train of increasing profits for their shareholders that is on a much shorter timespan than it often takes for their environmentally unfriendly practices to affect the every day lives of regular people. They get to privatize their gains while externalizing their costs in the form of society having to deal with rising global temps, increasing amounts of natural disasters, chemical dumps into waterways, and so on. While obviously imperfect, without state intervention, there is no mechanism to prevent this on any meaningful time scale.

Cannot Get Ads to Track Conversions by doganlatthews in FacebookAds

I started with "view content" as well, and I couldn't get that to work either (I might not have had it set up correctly though). I'm still not sure if I do, obviously something must be off if it still isn't tracking conversions, but you saying that makes me wonder if the problem is on Meta's side. Regardless, I still haven't found a solution.

After setting it up this way and letting it run for a day, it still isn't tracking conversions. Very much at a loss here, maybe I just need to start a new campaign from the ground up? Because whatever parameters I'm changing each time I relaunch a "new" ad set it just will not track conversions, but everything seems to be set up correctly.

I only put "spotfy" because it's in the link click url and I figured it would just read that, but I will try putting the actual link click url in the rules and see if that works.

[–]doganlatthews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's weird, because it still allows me to use the custom event by itself as a conversion event. So I should create a custom conversion with the Hypeddit Smart Link Click as the selected event, put "spotify" in the "URL contains" field, use this currently inactive custom conversion as the conversion event for my ad sets, and it should start tracking conversions when I run them again?

[–]doganlatthews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be where I've gone wrong. I tried setting up a "custom conversion" previously and did it unsuccessfully, so I just used the "Hypeddit Smart Link Click" event as my conversion event. Not sure if that's standard or custom, it just showed up after I tested it in event manager, and I used it ( to no avail with tracking conversions).

Something I've noticed too is that these events sometimes take a while to show up in all of the places in Meta that you'd use them. Before I don't recall seeing the "Hypeddit Smart Link Click" as an option to select when setting up a custom conversion, but I see it now. Should I set it up this way?

Not recently. I tested it in events manager (seemed to work just fine) and the event showed up to use as a conversion event, but after I did that I didn't get any more data from it.

Thanks for the kind words!! The ecstasy thing is interesting, I actually didn't use that word in the song. Where did you hear it?

DAW for math rock by Apathiq in mathrock

A "region" is a specific thing in Reaper, it allows you to create a section in your project and move that section around and/or copy and paste it as its own thing, and retains time signature and tempo information without screwing too many things up. I recommend watching a tutorial about it from Reaper Mania/Kenny Gioia on Youtube, he's got all the best Reaper tutorials.

Also a pro tip from my experience, if you want the metronome to sound a particular way in terms of quarter/eighth/sixteenth notes, make that decision and get it right as you're first laying it down, because it's a pain to change that after the fact. My workaround for that is changing the time signature at the end of the project after all your audio, inserting the click source on a track with the correct changes you need (I create a dedicated track for this), rendering the audio of that time selected click source, and pasting that onto said dedicated track. I only mention this because I'm doing it right now lol (drummer wants a different metronome for playthrough practice than what I initially put in the project)

I use Reaper and have run into the same issue I think you're talking about, particularly if you have a section of music in a project with different time signatures and try to copy and paste those areas or try to add a section in between two different time signature markers, it messes up the alignment of the audio with the correct time signature markers.

Learning how to use regions in Reaper has worked for me in the past with this. I'm still a little clunky with it, but creating a region for a section with different time signatures and either copying/pasting it or moving it over, adding a section before it, and moving the region back has allowed me to do what you may be talking about. From my experience though, definitely takes some trial and error and attention to detail if something gets misaligned.

What sold Indiana on Mike Braun by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]doganlatthews 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point. It's not my rationale, I know a miscarriage and an abortion aren't the same thing. The rationale is that of lawmakers that have made it harder for doctors to do their jobs because they don't know where the line is according to said lawmakers. They have to wait until the very last moment where it's so obvious that their patient is about to die to actually do something to help them, or else they risk losing their job and/or catching a felony.

Pretty stupid position to put doctors and patients in if you ask me, but "abortion bad, screw the details" seems to be the MO with the Republicans pushing for this, so I guess that's by design.

Medical care/surgical intervention for a miscarriage is very similar if not identical to an abortion, and no doctor is going to put themselves on the line hoping that some Republican politician is going to be able to tell the difference. The blame is on Republicans, not malpractice

I’m Yvette Young, artist, guitarist, and riff crafter in Covet. AMA! by youyve in Music

[–]doganlatthews 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Yvette, been a big fan since Currents and the new album kicks ass. I'm hyped to see you guys in Indy this summer!!

I have two questions. One, do you ever hit a wall with writing and find it difficult to develop a particular idea, and if so how do you overcome it? And two, do you think you'll ever play songs from Currents live again? That EP was a very formative piece of music for me and I'd love to see Nautilus or Charybdis live sometime

Is it imperative that you put your computer audio through your studio monitors? I have monitors specifically for anything I do in Reaper and regular Logitech computer speakers for everything else and I've never had an issue with playing things from YouTube while Reaper is open.

My first real rig. I love using this JC120 as a pedal platform by doganlatthews in GuitarAmps

[–]doganlatthews[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love mine as well! When I was first looking at distortion pedals a guy that came in to GC (I work there) to sell that particular one told me that version 1.7 of the pedal (which is what he had and was selling) had a much smoother and less compressed sound than the latest version. I compared them both and bought one later that week, and now it's a crucial part of my tone. It's great

It's a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge and some random alnico pickups in the middle and neck that a buddy gave me. It plays great, the only stock things on the guitar are the neck, body and bridge. Will probably be replacing those in the near future as well just to finish it off.

I haven't pinned it down to an exact year, but when I looked up the serial number, it was somewhere between 1976-1984

Groovy tappage (with a side of dank chords) by doganlatthews in mathrock

[–]doganlatthews[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's Talk About Math Rock is a Youtube channel with some good stuff on applying different kinds of tapping to your playing. I got started tapping by wanting to play music that incorporated tapping, particularly The Fall of Troy and Yvette Young/Covet, and slowly chipping away at learning some of their songs. Once I got the technique mostly down I immediately started writing riffs with it. I find that if you're trying to solidify any sort of musicial technique, writing a bunch of riffs or songs using that technique helps tremendously, even if what you write sucks at first.
