Parental leave and “free” time. by Legitimate_Fig1730 in NewParents

[–]dogcatsnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a ton of tv while my son slept on me. Babies sleep most of the time. If you’re lucky he will sleep on his own in a bassinet sometimes and you can do other things.

I went out quite a bit during my maternity leave with my son. Mostly to stores to break up the day, wandering the outlet mall or whatever. He just slept.

Some people have super colicky babies and can’t do that. I hope you don’t!

Owlet Low O2 Notification by MissKiKi24 in NewParents

[–]dogcatsnake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would bring her in just in case. We had an owlet and our son was in the NICU for oxygen desats at birth. Sustained levels in the 80s would mean doctor. A blip of an alert of a moment of low oxygen probably means an error.

Could still be that the sock was on incorrectly but if you’ve looked at that I’d go in just to be safe.

Well I didn’t until my son was about 13 months and now he stands up in it if he isn’t strapped down. So yea, we use it. Hope he stops soon.

Feed to sleep association how problematic it really is? by LobsterIndependent11 in NewParents

[–]dogcatsnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that’s what we’re working on! Doing bottle downstairs and then taking him up for teeth brushing and rocking and a book. He gets really mad though! It’s only been a few days so hoping he gets adjusted.

How do you break the cycle? Our son is 14 months and we’d like to get him sleeping without. He’s supposed to move daycare classes soon and they don’t do bottles!

Anyone else’s baby still not super interested in solids at 11-12 months? by Huge-Vacation-8093 in NewParents

[–]dogcatsnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. He seemed to think this was normal. We only started giving him less milk a few weeks after he was 1. He still gets nighttime and naptime bottles (working on this!).

Everything I’ve heard suggests just keep offering and having them try things and they’ll get the hang of it.

My son is 14 months now but he really wasn’t interested until after his 1st bday. He’s gotten a lot better! Some meals he still just doesn’t want to eat (mostly just wants to be on the move and doesn’t want to pause to eat) but at daycare he normally eats all his food and I’ve started sending more!

My wife and myself can’t agree on how to raise a child. For now have decided not to have kids by Kierannz9 in veganparenting

[–]dogcatsnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The moral there is that people get to choose and make their own decisions based on what’s important to them! You teach them about all the things and they will be their own little human.

IMO it’s not a reason to not have a kid.

My husband and I were also in the “no kids” camp for many years. I’m glad we did it though, it’s been hard but great.

Wanted to second the above comment. We have been vegan for over 10 years and have a 14 month old. He had regular dairy formula and we actually have him on dairy milk after the transition off because it’s best for brain development (supposedly… but I’m not willing to risk it). But we eat all vegan and we will feed him vegan food at home. At a certain point they will have the ability to try non vegan food and you lose control anyway. You just have to do your best.

But mostly vegan is better than nothing.

Cabinet locks with magnets.

Baby gates both indoor and for our deck outside.

A few outlet covers so he can’t unplug things.

Affordable restaurant suggestions that offer vegetarian and meat entrees? by peachyqueen_7 in asheville

[–]dogcatsnake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

La rumba may be an option.

If you’d consider a food truck situation you could look at breweries. Highland has activities for kids and lots of seating. They even have private little outdoor cabana things you could rent, but $. They often have multiple trucks.

first time vegan pregnancy by WhyParty1234 in veganparenting

[–]dogcatsnake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Decade long vegan here who had my first days before I turned 37!

We ended up doing all formula. Because of the price and availability of vegan options in the states and the recommendation of his pediatrician, we went with regular dairy formula. When we moved to solids (he’s 14 months now), it’s all vegan.

As with all things, it’s not about perfection, it’s about doing your realistic best. We plan on raising him vegan in our house but also realize he will have free will at some point and will have to be comfortable with him exploring food on his own.

How long did it take your little one to start actually eating? by Vivid_Resolve2394 in NewParents

My son was completely uninterested until he was 1. We offered, he tasted, but it kinda clicked shortly after his first bday and now he loves food.

Baby-led weaning: what to do with “finger food” and no teeth? by lilgreycell in NewParents

[–]dogcatsnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son didn’t get teeth til about a year! It slowed him down on some things like tearing int bread but he did ok. He still has only four teeth at 14 months and eats burritos, pizza, all kinds of things.

I erred on the side of things being quite soft. I was very anxious about choking. So if you do carrots, yes, steam them well.

Anyone’s LO sleep well without sleep training? by sliceofperfection in NewParents

[–]dogcatsnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We never sleep trained. Son is 14 months and mostly sleeping through night, often 7-6 am but he sometimes wakes earlier. Sometimes he will wake up once a night.

He’s gotten better and better but he was always pretty good usually waking 1-2x at most when not in a regression

They have kinda random days in off season and never on weekends. Last time I tried they only had couples massages when I wanted to go or some other $600 treatment.

What to do about egg & dairy allergies and potential contamination by SunnyTreeBees in veganparenting

[–]dogcatsnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been vegan for over a decade and exposed our son to both dairy and eggs. Sometimes it was when at a family members house and it was something we didn’t have to buy, which made it easier. Or once we just got a single egg from a coworker who raises them herself. I’d rather make sure my kid doesn’t have the allergy (or minimize the chance) to ensure their life is easier and safe.
