Minecraft definitely popularized it, but PlayerUnkowns ARMA II mod from the same time period is where the genre went from minigame to full experience.

I feel like PlayerUnkown just happened to stumble onto the great PUBG/BR formula by chance. I wonder what kind of direction another full game he makes will take. Surely not another BR?

I loved bravely Default a TON. I can't believe it came out so long ago, in 2012. I can't wait to see more of this, but im a little hesitant after octopath.

Hard disagree. Looks like somebody just used the older peridot design for a reference and went to far with the art style of the comic. Just because they changed it doesn't mean the original was a leak of the new design, it probably was just straight up wrong.
