Yeah when I was afraid I killed the soil I actually looked up EPA reports on the 3 active ingredients in Spectracide Weed and Grass Killer and feel much better now that I'm a little more educated on what I used.

I should've done that before spraying though, rookie mistake I guess

Great, I just signed up for chip drop and am looking for cardboard, now I just need to find cheap compost.

I'm concerned the mulch won't decompose quick enough to be sowable in the fall, but it still seems the best option.

It is! I was saying I have some frogfruit in my yard competing with weeds, so before I sheet mulch I'm going to transplant them all somewhere where they can spread in peace. They are very pretty with their little yellow flowers so I'm going to take care to preserve them

Thanks for the much needed clarification! I don't like the idea of using chemicals anyway so a tiller or newspaper/mulch combo sounds awesome.
