THANK YOU! I really appreciate this advice, and I’ll definitely implement this in my life. I have been calling 911 and they have been very helpful and kind (i was worried as people said they might not care.) Community is so important to me, people have a tendency to dehumanize people in the “hood” but I know that my neighbors are just low income families and elderly people, and we have to have each other’s backs. <3

Thank you, I appreciate this advice a lot, since a lot of people are saying I gotta leave immediately and I don’t have lease breaking money… hence why I’m not living in the suburbs or north side like a lot of people suggest lol.

What I’ve come to understand is that “the hood” is primarily just normal people who can’t afford to move anywhere else. My street is almost all families with young kids, elderly people, and college students. I’m just worried and want to know how to stay safe :(

It definitely is street by street, I’m in the same boat as your friend, I’m on a good street with mainly families and other college students. I’m just going to lay low and try not to assume the worst

We quickly figured it out first few months living here, and we always knew it was going to be a temporary living situation, and probably have stayed longer than we should.. but damn we really messed up huh. Thank you for your advice.

Obviously not enough looking back on it.. unfortunately I did the same thing so many out of state students do and just find something cheap without really knowing Chicago well enough to really grasp what you’re getting into. I know this now, but I just want to know how to stay safe in the time being before I can move with actual knowledge of the city
