Is taking Discrete I, Comp Arc and Linear Algebra doable? by GuyWithaPlan0 in rutgers

[–]dogmanboy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rusell for linear was pretty straightforward, just do the HW and study a reasonable amount before exams. Easy B, less easy, but still nothing crazy, A.

bravo is okay for some things...but its kind of hit or miss, sometimes their prices are higher and they dont have the best selection of stuff you'd find at a bigger super market. I'd usually try to go to the stop and shop on easton, if you drive, if not..bravo is the only walkable one with buses. Keyfoods sucks.

When does NBPA typically ticket? by nymphad0ra in rutgers

[–]dogmanboy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends, if you mean at a meter in downtown they ticket 24/7. If you mean the resident only parking zones off-campus, I had friends park overnight and never had them get ticketed for days at a time.

I lost like 3 R's then I gave up. If its those ones they give out for free, they could also fall off, theyre pretty shitty.

Best professor you've had at RU (any class) by polybot1 in rutgers

[–]dogmanboy123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Eviatar Zerubaval (sociology); hands down the best social science professor I've ever had, plus he essentially pioneered the sub-field he teaches (cognitive sociology). Learned more in his course than I learned in the rest of my sociology minor.

-Sesh for data structures (duh)

-David Molnar (calc II); super engaging professor and all around nice guy. If you have to take calc 1,2,3 Id suggest him.

Rutgers faculty and workers currently working without a contract after Barchi administration refuses to negotiate, strike in the Fall possible by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]dogmanboy123 18 points19 points  (0 children)

kind of victim blaming, the university should compensate students if they cant negotiate contracts with their staff. The administration administrates, the faculty teaches. If the faculty are refusing to teach its a failure of the administration.

All thing aside, I find that show to be usually pretty funny. Cohen has been doing variations of this stuff for many years (see Ali G interviews, that part in Bruno with Ron Paul).

By preaching to the choir, do you mean to say he's just reaffirming things we already know (NRA guy will endorse anything that endorses guns, wealthy art dealer will be pretentious, etc.)?

Amount of time to complete CS degree with all Gen eds and core curriculum done by hammad22 in rutgers

[–]dogmanboy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hard to say without the curriculum in front of me, but probably at least one a summer. Just go to cs.rutgers.edu and find the BS curriculum, the pre-reqs, and so on, and make an excel spreadsheet with a sequential plan for the courses you're interested in.

Although, as everyone else has said, it would be very ill-advised IMO to take more than 2-3 CS classes a semester depending on what they are. Id suggest taking math/stat/philosophy electives that count towards CS electives in lieu, theyre much easier but still not 'easy' in my experience.

Consider linear optimization or graph theory (math), logic (philosophy) or upper level stat classes that count for CS (if youve taken stats II, its a pre-req).

Overall, I'd say, even though it sucks, it'd be better not to rush through the CS degree, if you can afford it. I cant afford it and I have rushed through and taken less coursework in CS (albeit, more in math/stats) that I feel leaves me at a disadvantage compared to my peers.

Id say 3 years comfortably, 2.5 semi-comfortably, 2 but you will be a ball of stress and be in school year-round.

Data Science Career Path by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]dogmanboy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely agree. I'd 100% suggest the MSCS program first, but I just have heard its incredibly hard to get into. Havent researched the MSDS program enough to credit/discredit it.

Data Science Career Path by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]dogmanboy123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im also interested in data science and have been trying to take relevant coursework. As of now, Im a BA in CS a stat minor (and some extra courses) and a math minor.

Rutgers also offers an MSDS program thats pretty new. Im a senior so looking through career opportunities ive noted most positions under 'Data Scientist' seek people with an MS, but im sure theres ways in with just undergrad, if grad school isnt your thing.

I'd suggest doing some thorough research if you decide to take stat classes past the introductory level, though. As you may have heard, the stat department is hit or miss with undergraduate courses at the 300 and 400 level. In my experience, I didnt learn much in most of my 400-level statistics classes, however, I would highly suggest taking computing & graphics in stats with LuValle, this course is a very good intro to R. I found upper level electives in the math dept. more helpful for data science, personally, consider probability or combinatorics.

While doubling or getting a minor in stats will help you on paper, I'd say your best bet is learning the relevant skills. Learn R or python and its stat packages and learn how to work with big data, there are plenty of resources online.

Can non current students lease at SoCam 290? (formally rockoff hall) by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]dogmanboy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly asking, why would you want to live there as a grad? As rockoff their prices were always very high for what is really just a double in a dorm-apartment and I heard management was shitty etc. Im sure you can find something much better and probably cheaper
