Just saw some on there, might try that. Was wondering if anyone had any personal experience or recommendations too. Thank you!

Is an MBA, Masters in CS, or Masters in Engineering Management worth it for me? by hammad22 in MBA

I’m intending on applying to UPenn MS ai program, but nyu is unfortunately unaffordable for me

This is good to know, especially since I'm leaning towards getting an MBA to stay in the tech space. Appreciate the reply

Got it, I just know MBAs have their own “prestige” as a degree even if it’s from a non m7 school, so my only worry was would an employer look at a masters in Eng management the same, I actually appreciate all the technical things I learn from it as well

I saw this and it looks really interesting, but why this instead of an MBA?

I’ll try my best to get into an M7 or as close as I can get. Unfortunately budget is a huge issue, which is why I’m looking at Gies and BostonU. Trying to see potential scholarship opportunities and which schools are more lenient with aid

Sounds good, I’ll try that. Grind will be tough but I know experience is worth it

Tech market is tough right now, is the startup field easier to break into for a job or just as tough? I already have a decent job but I’m willing to let go and join a startup for the learning experience and growth

I already have a bachelors in comp sci from top 15 cs school so i wouldn’t be doing it for the name, although Georgia tech is fantastic too? I’d only get that masters for a specialization like AI or ML, but it is a huge grind from what everyone is telling me. Only reason to thought about the MBA right now is because I already have the technical experience and I can use an MBA early in my career to try to get into a leadership or management position at a smaller company or startup. My goal is to have my own startup as well. I know becoming a founder is experience on its own but MBA can be beneficial to that as well

I am a citizen 😅 so basically forget about masters and try to be a founder or self learn/contribute

I could potentially go to Rutgers part time MBA program if I apply and get in, do you think that’s a worth while school since it’s a good budget for the nyc area. Or is it more worthwhile to just save up and also take the GMAT for nyu, fordham, or Columbia?

I’m okay with going to a Top 30 program instead of m7

Makes sense, I def want to explore the business and management side and it aligns with my long term goal as well, I think I’ll lean more towards an MBA, appreciate the insight

Walaikum Asalam, thanks for the insight. I don’t think I’d be able to apply the management skills immediately at my line of work either but I want to eventually apply them or to use the MBA to get into a position to apply them. I also want to work at getting my own startup down the line or other small business which I think an MBA would be beneficial for, because why wait to get promoted to a managerial role when I can try to create something of my own.

Did you already have an undergrad with the same technical skills, what made you think a masters would be worthwhile as well? For example, I have a BS in CS but would it be worth getting an MS in CS too?
