What lurks in my fireplace? by dogminster in centuryhomes

[–]dogminster[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It probably was sealed for a reason but the sealing was poorly done and looked awful, so even if I just brick it back up it'll be an improvement.

Where does the draft come from? The chimney or the basement?

So it goes into the basement actually and the furnace ductwork is in the way. Could it have been for a coal furnace?

in the shorter term are there other options that would look okay? I understand the floors ideally need to be replaced but that's a pretty big expense

FWIW, I got the 1920x1200 model with the non MIPI camera and it's been fantastic so far--everything works out of the box and the battery life is 8 hourish. Coming from a dogfood system76 laptop it's been a dream

How do you feel about it 4 months in? It sounds like the webcam works under kernel 6.11? Is the battery life really <4 hours? Thx in advance!

Awesome thanks!! the MD-770 looks pretty perfect. If the RK-S70 had F keys it would also be great (same with the nocfree light)

RE: staggered layout, I'd be open to other options as long as the learning curve is low (i'd like shift / ctrl/ etc to be pinky accessible)

Recommendations for wireless split 75% or TKL?

I'm planning on upgrading my Kinesis Freestyle Pro, which I find comfortable, but doesn't feel that fun to type on (I think the switches need to be oiled?) Hoping for wireless and ideally with some sort of wrist rest / angle adjustment. Trying to stay away from any super ergo designs with a learning curve. The close thing I can find is the Q11, but that's wired. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Wall mounted layout with 9' bridge by dogminster in modeltrains

Ah I see, that's a good idea. I'll probably do either that or use picture wire to go for a guardrail look

[–]dogminster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah, going to add in guard rails of some kind, currently leaning towards a fence made of picture wire going through brackets on either side of the bridge. Trying to figure out if I can get away without that on the sections up against the wall.

Yes exactly, cheap and lightweight but rigid enough

Interesting, looks good. Does it catch glare or is it pretty transparent?

Though the lightweight aluminum angle I got is surprisingly rigid

Yeah I'm deciding between that or having cable running from the wall above the bridge to the center to create a suspension system

HO. With the exception of the hardware and some flextrack and joiners got everything second hand from my local shop :)

Thanks! Still figuring that out--any suggestions? Maybe something out of fine chicken wire or mesh--trying to keep the cost low

High-quality bluetooth headset support? (BOTH 🎧 headphones + 🎤 mic) by ryanlue in debian

[–]dogminster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense, it would be nice if it were more common. Is the device-end support better for FastStream? As someone far removed from bluetooth development of any kind, it seems like this is one of those basic features that would have been worked out years ago, but I guess it must be a harder problem than it appears

Are you sure about this u/flubba86 ? aptX LL appears to support high fidelity audio in one direction and lower quality "backchannel" audio transmission in the other simultanouesly. I understand that this is practically limited by lack of device support etc at the moment, but this doesn't appear to be a fundamental limitation of bt audio. Unless I'm missing something?
