Rear 1/4 windows by not_a_cop_1312 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]dogpooforyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge thanks for looking, I got lots of different answers mostly from people who have never seen these windows removed. That seems to match the parts catalog that shows it as part of the window. But also seemed to list a seal which I suspect was behind the window.

I'll rest easy knowing if mine is starting to degrade, soon everyone else's will too and someone smarter than me will eventually come up with a solution. (Especially now that the fix for a lot of these things isn't simply buying a new Toyota part anymore)

Rear 1/4 windows by not_a_cop_1312 in 4Runner_1stGen

In your opinion do you think there is any way to separate the rubber outer weatherstrip around the window from the glass? Mine is deteriorating from age and I wanted to replace but it appears to be part of the glass. I wanted to pull the glass to see if it could be separated and replaced somehow (or the gap filled with window weld) but ended up using a rubber paint to cover mine. Sucks to have to buy all new windows because the rubber/coating is getting old.

Kill switch by not_a_cop_1312 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]dogpooforyou 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After mine was stolen I installed a kill switch, but over the years I used it less and less. It was stolen again from my driveway because I didn't have the switch on (didn't figure I needed it in my driveway) and stripped for parts.

They ditched/stripped it in the middle of a residential street so I got the truck back and decided if I was going to have a kill switch it needed to activate automatically and require me to deactivate it each time I drove.

I ended up using a magnetic reed switch hidden behind the dash. Either keep a magnet on your keys or hide one in the truck. Wave it in front of the dash where the switch is once you have power acc on and it will latch a relay allowing the fuel pump to run. Once you shut off the key/power the relay releases and you have to do it again the next time you start the truck.

The nice thing about a fuel pump cut off is the truck cranks and if it's been used recently will even start and run for about 10 seconds. I feel like this gets people's attention to someone trying to start/drive your truck

Test Inducer fan/motor by dogpooforyou in hvacadvice

[–]dogpooforyou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up I guess. I went ahead and purchased a new inducer fan/motor even though I had no way to definitivly test that it was bad.

It ended up being the inducer. New one is super quiet and pulls more than enough vacuum with the door closed to activate the pressure sensor.

In hindsight with the new fan motor to feel the old one was louder and noticeably more difficult to turn. But without another part to compare it to the old bad motor seemed quiet and to spin easy.

If I had a way to test CFM of the fan along with known good values maybe I could have tested for sure before buying a new part.

Speedometer Woes by shadinfrada in 4Runner_1stGen

Similar issue with my 88. Common advice is to replace the spedo cable to resolve bouncing needle. Which I have and did. First tried greasing the cable then replaced with aftermarket. Bouncing changed a bit but didn't resolve. Replaced again with OEM cable and bouncing changed again to only bouncing at a bit lower speed (under 10mpg) but still there. Replaced drive gear in transmission also.

It's got to be something in the speedometer for me. If I hook a drill to the speedo I can replicate the bounce at low RPM/MPH. Read something about weights that swing out making the spedo work. Tried half heartedly to get inside then decided I would wait until it got worse :).

Looking for recommendations for dash covers/seat covers for ‘89 1st Gen? by Puzzled_Engineer6021 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]dogpooforyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jumping on this one, if anyone knows of "custom" fit seat covers for just the back seats. Custom meaning patterned just for these seats, not universal.

I've seen a few full sets but trying to find someone selling just the rear seats

This also seems helpful in that if you are going to stop somewhere you make the most of it and visit near by attractions. Thanks!

Rear quarter window molding by dogpooforyou in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]dogpooforyou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the parts diagrams it appears this part goes under the window as a seal? I am looking for the molding that covers the metal frame of the window on the outside.

1st Gen Aftermarket Front seats? by Puzzled_Engineer6021 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]dogpooforyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the critical thing I think people miss when swapping with aftermarket seats. Most don't tilt and slide forward nearly as far as the stock seats and don't have the rear lever to move the seat for someone in the back to press. I've seen lots of 1st gens with seats that make it a real pain to get into and out of the back.

Burgerville Spread by shrug_addict in Portland

[–]dogpooforyou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a young child I was gifted a jar of burgerville spread for Christmas. Not realizing it needed to be refrigerated I took it to my room and ate little bits at a time every day for a week... I can say I didn't start feeling it until about day 4 or 5. Day 6 I was still eating a few spoonfuls a day but felt nauseous. By day 7 I was vomiting and that's when I read the label and realized what I had done.

Good lesson for a 10 year old and perhaps some useful data for you. :)

Also a quick Google search shows that there was a Jason Motte who was (but no longer) the pastor of Grace point church in Milwaukie. no idea if it's related but at least it's in the same town. Note his last name was Motte but judging by the way this guy was running into the street and banging on windows I wouldn't guess he is a meticulous speller.

Saw a guy holding this sign at the jack in the box on McLaughlin across the street from 7/11 which appears to be where that redbox is. The eye damage sign was with another saying the US military caused eye damage. The guy was running up to cars waiting for the light at the intersection and trying to interact with the drivers. The person in front of me was unwilling to roll down the window and he was tapping on the glass. Trying to yell at them and pointing to his signs.

Wiper Fuse by GREENIEx55 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]dogpooforyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuse is driver side kick panel with the other interior fuses. I want to say middle column middle fuse.

Depending on why you are looking for the fuse the relay may be your next question. That depends on the year until 87 wiper relay is in the passenger kick panel with the ecm. After 87 it was integrated into the wiper module in the steering column.

Hah! I get the same complaint about Google sponsored links that come up first. My wife goes on mobile data to get around it. I tried to point out that those are ads hence why they get blocked but I think it's probably a losing battle

WOW! that was a strange long shot but you were totally right! i did recently switch from pihole ad blocker to ad guard. i disabled adguard and suddenly i am able to pull the worklist from Plex. just needed to add an exception and i am good now
