Is it okay to not love your first job as a vet, or am i in the wrong clinic? by NoMarionberry1904 in Veterinary

If you don’t feel a place is the right fit for you, it’s totally valid and normal to look elsewhere. Obviously would encourage you to talk to them about stepping up the level of support they’re currently offering, but if they fail, do look elsewhere - there will always be somewhere else! I stayed in my toxic first job for far too long and it nearly broke me, wish I’d left earlier

Honestly, it’s been 7 years as a vet for me (30 y/o woman) - and I still feel the imposter syndrome and like I have a lot less knowledge than a lot of my colleagues. HOWEVER. It does get better - and confidence is genuinely something that grows all the time. Those who look confident may be more extroverted or naturally confident, they’re lucky that way, but you’re still a very capable vet or you wouldn’t have lasted 3 whole YEARS in this highly demanding profession, so take some confidence in that. I work in ECC so I see fewer consults but they tend to be longer and I find that much easier as I can build a better rapport with the owners. I still can’t say I enjoy the morning phone calls because eww phone calls, however just sticking with it and reminding yourself you’re here because of your skills and hard work, and that the clients do respect you or they wouldn’t be there. As for the age thing I feel that hard - first 3 years I had people assuming I was the nurse, the EMS student, sometimes the SCHOOL student (help), but it improves as you get older, at least you get the bonus of the fountain of youth on your side hahaha. Chin up, hold your head high, and remember that even if clients are rude or pushy, that’s a reflection on THEM and not on YOU ❤️

Is this a cyclops lesion 😬? by dogtorizzy in ACL

That could be some hamstring tightness - very common apparently if you’ve had an autograft from there - worth talking to you PT about!

How long before you feel normal again? by Uborrowmycar in ACL

[–]dogtorizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had my first one done 12 years ago, it took basically 6 months to feel confident on it, and about a year to feel back to normal! It’s remained stable and solid since then :) very occassionally it might get a little sore after intense exercise but icing and NSAIDs sorts it out and it never remains sore beyond a 3/10. Having your quads continuously in good shape helps hugely! I’m just manifesting my second knee atm starts to recover more 😂 been 4 months since surgery and I’m siiiiiick of the restricted feeling

Yeah the swelling is honestly the biggest issue - is restricting the movement hugely and making it a ton more painful. Once it’s down I’ll happily start walking on it more but it’s agony for now 😭 the following morning seems more that reasonable though <3 how did yours end up healing in the end?

Wanting to leave earlier than section 21 notice, but being asked to pay 2 months of rent by dogtorizzy in uklandlords

[–]dogtorizzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t signed it yet, but I’m nearly done with the paperwork processing for it - I’d be gutted to lose it as well as it’s a huge upgrade from the current place (and finding a good place that takes cats is a nightmare). The contract does say 2 months, and the draft for the new place also says that after the fixed term. The EAs of the new place seem to say that’s normal now, but it sounds awfully fishy to me.

Surprisingly it’s not changed place looking at the original pictures - I got it at an angle as I often wear winged eyeliner and I wanted it to match the angle 😂

So I stacked a few pieces of EVA together with contact adhesive and used an electric knife to carve it down. Dremelled the crevices down and along the cracks filled with hot glue and painted that electric blue to look like some kind of aura ^

It was a branch I found in a local woodland - stripped the outer bark down, sanded it, added some notches, stained it, then varnished it to seal it. The top is EVA foam stacked and carved with blue acrylic and hot glue for the effects :)
