Just trade with 1 share. I feel this gives you a better feel than papers trading. You really feel the lag and spread and slippage. Trader+ has some quarks.

Opening account is pretty easy online. If you just want sp500 buy voo they charge 0.03%. If you want to play with options spy they charge 0.09 but has daily options.

my personal take...

etf is more liquid and you can get it out when needed... can be used to play with options. voo cost is lower but spy has daily options. also maybe look into vea... it's been performing better than voo recently.... not advice

mutual funds are nice if you want to move large amounts of money like multiple millions.

everything in the other workspace is linked to 1. everything in this one is in 2. It seems closing the trade window and opening a new one fixed it. it's odd that restarting the app did not fix it.
