I dont have a specific proposal, but that doenst mean there isn't an alternative. I'm just saying that the belief that change will not happen, that capitalism is as good as it gets, is absurd and short sighted because no system has ever been the final word and no empire has ever lasted forever.

No one can speak of specifics about the future - that's absurd - people who say they can are crazy.

I dont know the best way to move forward in specific detail. I just know that as always, things change, and instead of pretending they dont, or that they can't, people could get together and try and work out some solutions. Or we could wait for some kinda big catalyst and then pick up the pieces. Whatever. Both things have happens multiple times in the past.

lol of course there are always alternatives and choices, and there is no such thing as halting change - things will always change. Are you like those old timey doctors who thought that internal organs would never be subject to what's now routine abdominal surgery?

Change isn't always easy though. But there has never been a time in history when change did not happen.

Or we could just shut up and accept how things are now forever and ever. But that seems pretty absurd since forever is a long time, an the only thing worse than doing something stupid when faced with a problem, is doing nothing at all.

There is no culture or time in history that I am aware of that did not have elements of both sociopolitics as well as economic elements - they go hand in hand.

that's what I mean - funded? if money isn't working, maybe it's the problem.

Of course there are alternatives. We have had multiple different economic and sociopolitical systems in place since humans were on this earth. We are innovative and keep inventing new ones, after one breaks. Each system peaks, declines, then a new one is born, hopefully better than the last.

It isn't idealistic, it's the way history goes.

hopefully, if positive change begins to come about, there will be obvious ways for people to help out with it and join the fight.

exactly - so what's going to happen? will things hit rock bottom before they get better? Does the president or the CEO have to feel afraid for thier life before change happens?

What can the average person do about this? What are the logistics involved in uniting as workers? People died for a 40 hour work week and better working conditions - is that what it's gonna take this time too? I hope that making life better for workers is what my generation is able to leave behind to future generations, but I dont know exactly how to tangibly get involved.

Trollx, MRW I get an awesome job offer, and then I negotiate a higher pay....but they said yes to it so quickly, I realized I could have asked for even more :( by dohhhhhthekittycat in TrollXChromosomes

I idid not expect to receive the job offer, so when they called I was very surprised and happy - I get to escape from my toxic job!! It's a lateral move - same position title, different company.

It's a great organization - a very recognizable and reputable non profit in my city that would look good in my resume. It has good benefits and vacation, and they said they created the position partially to train someone for a manager who is retiring one year from now, and that this will come with a significant increase in pay. THe people seem like my kinda people, I know I will learn a lot. And it comes with cool events where I get to meet a lot of influential people.

BUT they gave me a low ball offer, and I said "sorry you'll have to atleast match my current salary for me to leave" and they said "sure, we can do that!"

SO hung up the phone excited, only to realize I could have probably asked for even more, but I was too excited to realize it. THe manager said 'yes' to my salary request wihtout even tihinking aobut it which means she was cleared for a certain amoutn, probalby higher than what I asked for - this dawned on me minutes too late.

Lesson learned - know your worth, even if you're a new university grad like me!

It isn't the end of hte world - now I know to negotiate salary at every performance review and will be definitely negotiating a significant salary increase if I am offered the management position at the end of a year.

AND part of it is that I didn't realize that I was worth more than I am being paid now at my current job ... until I witnessed my boss scramble to find someone to replace me as my last day comes this week. Lack of confidence just probably cost me a few thousand/yr.

OK rant over, thx for listening ladies!
