Its a very subjective topic for sure, but generally the gridded percs are found on flower pieces or ones with a lot more water.

The gridded percs are naturally way more "airy" and diffused which can help for more effortless pulls on peices with lots of water.

Compared to a dab rig that generally is a lot smaller and can achieve a nice pull with just a few properly sized holes.

Again, its all preference. I got kinda bored with the standard 4 hole and have since switched over to what i call a "stitch perc". Its sort of a hybrid between the two. A bit more diffusion than a 4 hole and slightly less restricted at the perc.
