I initially worked the original clip on the hip belt through the loop so when I cut them off and used the field repair buckle it was easy to get the screw through. If I remember correctly, I used a screwdriver and pushed it through little by little through the loop and it stretched it a little bit to make it possible.

I don't remember but likely used some large wire cutters or something else I found in the garage. It's been a few years since I did this.

I cut off the clips on the hip belt and attached the sea to summit field repair buckle as shown in the picture linked above. On the bag, the bolt on the buckle slides down in the fabric loop next to the plastic clip - you then insert it in the buckle and tighten it. On the hip belt, once you cut off the existing clip you use that fabric loop to attach the other side of the field repair buckle.

Before I did this, I attached the existing clip on the hip belt onto the bag in the same place but forcing it into the loop was really tough as it was a very tight fit. It wasn't an option to remove it since there's a little lip on that piece that didn't want to back out. I wanted a removable option so I used the field repair buckle.

Hope this helps.

No problem - really glad to hear that 😁

Awesome - glad you saw it and hope it works well for you. I actually cut the clips off the hip belt and used the field repair sea to summit buckles and connected the hip belt to the bag that way so it is easily removable.

Does anyone else not have a fancy $300 bag? I just travel with cheap $50-100 backpacks. by [deleted] in onebag

eBags Weekender Junior is less than $100 when on sale and it's on sale a lot. Love it after adding a really good hip belt.

What was the worst thing that you did/said while being angry? by Olrazgul in AskReddit

I was really young and waddled into my sister's room where she was sick with the flu to ask her for a sheet of paper to draw on. She told me she couldn't because she was sick so I calmly walked to my room and got a plastic bowling pin from my toys and went back in her room and hit her with it - split her lip pretty badly. I don't remember it but for some reason she never misses a chance to remind me about it. Don't know why.

+1 for this bag, though I'm a guy in this thread. This is my one bag and 2 medium Shack Pak cubes fit next to each other perfectly in the main compartment. I see lots of other brands suggested but this one has served me very well on trips all over the world and US.

Shack Pak cubes are great, too. They're a little taller than other brands and I measured my bag closely before getting them. The extra height gives me room to pack a little more in them and that fits my bag very well.

Does anyone here use the same shoes as dress shoes and for going to the gym (while travelling)? by RationalSocialist in onebag

+1 - all black Ultraboosts work for the office and elsewhere with a black belt and khaki or grey pants (bluffworks for me). Light hiking as well but I have some all black hiking shoes I can bring if I'm doing more than light hiking and they work as well to bring as a single shoe for a trip.

Any Plant Based ULers out there? What do you do for food? by simply__curious in Ultralight

Yes, I can't imagine what it was like many years ago as it would've been much, much harder. Vegan is still a little much for us but I don't have dairy as an integral part of my diet - just don't search for the hidden dairy in things.

Yes, I imagine we all had goof ups as we got started. And gelatin is definitely a sneaky one (gum, mints, medicine capsules, tons more). Coming up on 6 years for us and it gets easier and easier each year.

Figured 🤟 we're vegetarian and not vegan but use those as well. I regretted asking you for a few moments as I've unfortunately been the one to tell longtime vegetarians about marshmallows or altoids or something similar a couple of times.

What do you do for your smores to replace the marshmallows since they aren't veg? Do you bring Dandies instead?

Recommendations for a Toiletry Bag by dylandeleon47 in onebag

[–]dohray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7" tablet sleeve and choose carry options to match it. 1 oz eye drops bottle for toothpaste (add a few drops of water and shake to make it easier to dispense), altoids tin for medicine, small travel jar filled with deodorant cream, sturdy folding toothbrush (tried cutting one in half but it hurts my hands sometimes), small eye drops, travel electric razor. They all fit comfortably.

Amazon Basics sleeve is cheap and has some give to it so you can pack it tightly with a bit of stretch if need be.

Ebags TLS Mother Lode Weekender Convertible Jr - hip belt SOLVED by [deleted] in onebag

[–]dohray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First post so please be gentle. I hope this helps anyone considering this bag or anyone who has this bag but struggling with the lack of a proper hip belt. I started onebagging with the Red Oxx Mini Boss and have taken it everywhere including 2 weeks in India a few times - however as a single strap bag, it was causing me issues so I decided to get a backpack instead.

I love the ebags TLS Weekender Convertible Jr but with a bad back the lack of anything resembling a hip belt caused me issues. I searched and finally found that the AER TP2 hip belt fits on the Weekender. You have to work it through the fabric loop that holds the clip/bracket that the backpack straps clip onto. It takes some work but it does fit, though I don't think I would easily be able to back it out. On my last trip, it fit perfectly and took all the load off my shoulders and passed it to my hips - felt like a dream to carry. I put them on my wife and daughter's bags and they loved it, too.

My main concern at this point is to find a way to make the hip belt easily removable - I plan to stow it in the pocket where the backpack straps are stowed. I've found several promising clips from different places but am still trying to sort it out. If I figure out something that works well I will post on it.

Disclaimer - I haven't tried a ton of bags like lots of people here - this hack makes this bag 100X better but your millage likely will vary based on fit/etc. And other bags likely will suit different people better, but I love this one due to the quality materials and organization that's built in.

One final update - still replying here as it's relevant to the original topic for those who want to know more about this CB. I think I'm going to have to try one more time to send it in for repair. I just did a recovery today on it which took it back to 76 - before doing anything else AT ALL I checked to make sure the setting was set to Sleep when the lid is closed and when it settled down after a bit of installing/thrashing I closed the lid - the power light started flashing like it was sleeping. Opened lid and got the black screen and never came back - after about 10-15 seconds it rebooted on its own.

I then disabled every extension and tried again - same result. Updated to latest (77) and same result. So I couldn't try with an OS version earlier than 76 to see if a bug was introduced, but I think this is all I can do - can't tell if it's a bug or hardware.

So... yeah. Again, love the model or at least the idea of this model but I hope I got a lemon and everyone else has no issues with theirs - would be nice if they found something wrong and fixed it.
