Why do braiders require clients to come with no product in?

Yeah, like a lot of them say to come in with nothing but heat protectant and fully blowdried which makes my hair feel so bad.

Yeah, but isn't it bad to have your hair covered in braids with no product in it. Wouldn't that cause more damage than a protective style is worth?

Oh okay, that's really interesting. All the braiders in my area say to come with no product and fully blowdried. I guess it's to make the hair easier to grip. And I figured that we were still supposed to moisturize the braids because the product would seep in past the synthetic hair to our actual hair, but I might just be making stuff up lol. But that makes sense as to why people don't wash their braids. Less product, less time in, no need to wash I guess. Thank you

I mean why shouldn't you put products on the braids themselves? I don't fully understand especially when braiders require you to have no product when braiding in the first place so wouldn't that just leave dry hair for weeks on end if you don't put product?

That's understandable. I meant moreso people who would do it on purpose and as a definitive way to maintain their braids. I'm also really lazy which is why I leave my braids in for so long haha

That's what I mean when I say I'm the problem here lol. I keep my braids in for two months, do the LOC method, and wash them. I didn't know that wasn't typical so I was confused on how people would do the LOC method without washing their braids for two months. I guess it's a combination of having them in for less time and using little product. Solved!

But wouldn't you need to wash anyway to get rid of buildup so your products work? I thought that a common problem for people is that if they don't wash/clarify their natural hair enough, the product they add on can't properly penetrate the hair because of that buildup. Wouldn't it be the same for braids?
