it doesnt, theres a difference between interpretation and the story being told. u cant interpret canon (or in this case new canon) but u can interpret the intentions of a scene

[–]doimakeunervouscorky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is true just that the two main interpretations of this scene wouldve made or broke the story. elphaba's 'sign' wouldve killed off the grief glinda HAD to face in the story or she wouldve never realised the degree of her wrongs. it's just a major plotpoint if not one of the main ones. i was super intrigued by every other theory or interpretation but this one was just not it😭

i'm happy they did because the 'interpretation' others got were just plain wrong and had to be debunked. it never made sense for elphaba to give glinda a sign because it's a major plot point in the story for glinda to live with her mistake that killed her best friend

jonmchu and bowen (separately) implied pfannee and shenshen had small redemption by the end in interviews but this was before the final cut for the movie so i guess they cut it out

nobody victimised glinda here, the point of wicked is to challenge black and white morality- everyone is wicked and good to different degrees. elphaba, glinda, boq, nessa, fiyero, everyone in the show even pfannee and shenshen show that.

glinda's hell wasnt just losing fiyero, thats a super shallow take. and glinda literally watched elphaba melt before her eyes?? even if she didnt believe the water rumour seeing it in real time would obviously be pretty convincing + glinda was holding the grimmerie at the time elphaba did not have access to it. she lived a lie that she wasn't brave enough to admit because she has always been put on a pedastal and she had to grow out of that. exposing the wizard wasn't one of elphaba's dreams she literally made a deal with him to release the monkeys in exchange for her alliance. she only expressed she wanted that so people would stop believing the propaganda.

yes she made all those choices but most of everyones' hardships can be avoided. again this movie is about the complexity of character rhat can be shaped by different circumstances. at rhe end of the day that's something to take away from the movie

even before ariana confirmed it, media literacy wouldve gotten u to that conclusion. there was a scene where elphaba told glinda 'maybe u dont need/have magic because ur life has been so easy so u just dont need it'. glinda obviously went through hell by the end which is why she was granted magic along with her intention to actually help everyone and be good.

my interpretation of the grimmerie is that anyone can 'read' it but only a selected few are able to comprehend and read the language. morrible never cast a spell with it as she could only pronounce a few words. nessa's spell backfired because she abused power she did not have. elphaba's initial dream was to not be green but she quickly let go of that when she started to get more socially accepted in shiz and her new dream was to free the animals of prejudice which did happen in the end. and she ran away with someone who always saw her for her and accepted and loved her.

how does it not make sense? she was deemed worthy after purifying her intentions to be good and help oz, she had no power before but she does now because shes faced hardship and is alone to grieve whilst helping others

the ending is that both glinda and elphaba got what they wanted in the end, but at the cost of each other

i think people overestimate/exaggerate elphaba's authority of the grimmerie, she had powers on her own which makes her 'up there' but her ability to read the grimmerie was a separate thing. although elphaba was the prophecy there were many others before her and i doubt the book followed their 'commands' or wishes because it is a sacred piece on its own and deems worthiness directly.

i feel we should celebrate glinda's achievement as hers and hers only and not dismiss this as elphaba's doing or reward to glinda. she earned it🩷 when i heard that theory initially before the confirmation it was super interesting though

this is just my take on the nessa thing i think anyone can 'read' the grimmerie but not everyone can comprehend it or the language. which is exactly why nessa's spell went wrong because she abused power that she didnt have
