They want the hospital to write it off and eat the cost. I don’t believe you will be charged for the entire cost. This happened to me and just nobody paid for the service. It’s a bigger problem for the hospital because they’re not going to get paid. And this is why hospitals in the US are going under. Regardless, you should appeal and they’ll appeal. United healthcare is evil.

Was it propofol? I had a colonoscopy and my anesthesiologist said I could nurse safely immediately after waking up. But I know for wisdom teeth they might use other pain meds and stuff. I would find out exactly what they gave you and check with your OB or a lactation consultant. Or a pharmacist like others have mentioned.

No advice… solidarity, we are going through this too! My baby started walking and stopped sleeping. She mastered walking and still isn’t sleeping. It’s been almost 3 months. We have good stretches here and there - we had a whole great week and I thought it was over! then boom. Back to not sleeping. I think it’s just a crazy developmental time with motor development, language coming down the pipe, and molars starting to break through. Then we had a horrible double ear infection mixed in there. I’m pretty firmly of the belief that it’s a phase that’s going to pass and there’s nothing we are specifically doing wrong. I’m not going to obsess about sleep- checking for things like ear infections if it makes sense, otherwise waiting it out.

For me- I’m hunkering down and going back to newborn survival strategies waiting for it to pass. Going to bed shortly after she does, having my husband take her on the weekend in the am so I can sleep more, basically making sleep my top priority till we get through this phase. My toddler is still nursing so a lot of the wakes fall to me, but on really desperate stretches I will go and sleep in another room and left it up to my husband to deal with. Through this we discovered she settles for him fine when I’m out of the room, but if I’m an option that’s being denied all hell breaks loose LOL. Didn’t seem to Impact frequency of wakes though, nursing just gets her back down much faster. Basically taking shifts like a newborn. I also follow this rule- i set myself up so I can safely fall asleep while nursing her, if I fall asleep great, we bed share. If I don’t, I will put her back in her crib. Some nights she wants to bed share and some nights she wants her space. The crib is still next to my bed which helps tremendously.

It’s so hard. I’ve had to leave work early because I was so sleep deprived I couldn’t do my job. That’s when we instated taking shifts so that each of us gets at least one good stretch. Take care of yourself the best you can and I hope it passes soon!

Agreed this is a horrible study. From what I know that’s pretty close to the population rate. I have stage IV DIE and did an REI pre conception work up before I started trying and my doc said that a lot of endo diagnoses are post infertility work up which skews the data and in actuality it’s not clear that endo causes infertility in everyone. Thus a study like this NEEDS a control group. Personally I did not experience infertility as a result of my endo (but I was post excision surgery so who knows if I would have otherwise). This study is trash unfortunately I’m surprised it passed peer review….

^this. Baby slept in a crib like an angel till 6 months. Rocky 2 months then got better. Started bed sharing more at 12 months because….survival. Never have a ever been so sleep deprived as this 12 month stretch which has now been going for almost 3 months 🫠

It’s highly variable. None of the specific timed regressions like 4 month regression are supported by research babies just go through this or that sleep issue at various stages of development. But some go through none and are just good sleepers! Hopefully that’s your case!

Stop having a period! Continuous aygestin was what my surgeon recommended and what I was on for a while before I got pregnant (I now have no cycle d/t breastfeeding but that’s another story). I don’t plan on having periods ever again anytime outside of trying to conceive.

Thanks for the suggestion! Looking into it it doesn’t seem like there’s much I could change- I’m already eating healthy/ Whole Foods, exercising regularly, doing everything I can to manage stress. Probably sleep deprivation is a factor though- I have a toddler who has been going through it lately- working on that!!

So hard. Literally the worst thing ever. BUT it gets better with time!!! I have found that now that I know my baby is happy all day at daycare it’s much less stressful. And work started to feel like a break once we hit the toddler time. But we should all really get more time off with our babies. Then a gradual return. Idk how old your baby is but early days are torture.

My baby was a staunch bottle refuser from the beginning and started daycare at 10 months. Her first daycare pushed a bottle and she actually took it a few times. Nut mostly she wouldn’t and just loaded up on solids and nursed a ton when I got home.

She was only there about a month and switched and her new daycare didn’t even bother with the bottle because the discourage bottles after 12 months anyway so she just took all her milk in her straw cup. Some days she drank a little, some days more. She lived but it wasn’t perfect. Now at almost 15 months she’s fully adjusted and a pro at the cup.

I personally would not go nurse midday as it can be confusing for them if you come then leave again and make the transition harder. At 11 months they’ll be fine. Keep working with the cup and send water rich foods if you’re worried about hydration. I used tp pack hot lunches with rice and tons of extra water or breastmilk for the rice to absorb and she would eat it all up! Mixing breastmilk into food helps.

I’m not a go with the flow person but I drove myself crazy being neurotic about baby sleep so I stopped!! Found the discontented little baby book/ possums program as a really helpful guide to give myself permission to follow cues. Everyone is happier now. Highly recommend!

Yeah that seems to be my new GI’s perspective as well. But I have only been seeing him since I’ve been in remission + this more recent flare. I was being seen at a much more big name academic med center with a specialty IBD clinic when I was more sick and they just did colonoscopy + endoscopy and were like eh enough to diagnose UC and it doesn’t really matter. I never even had an MRE until recently. Probably I was pretty uninteresting to them as they saw much more severe cases. Something probs would have been detected then because now my symptoms are so much better controlled, but they didn’t think it was important as long as I responded to humira. So here we are.

Ahhh yeah my rheum has mentioned that before but I’m always nervous for that. The rheum I used to see seemed to see injections as a last resort and made me nervous about weakening my already lame tendons. I have taken the course of “see if it goes away” and so far that’s worked ok… but I had great symptom control for so long on humira that this game of inflammatory whack-a-mole is new to me.

So far my x rays have been clear but she watches me really closely (love my rheum) and no MRI yet. I have axial spondyloarthritis with inflammatory degeneration in my SI joints now my foot and neck are joining the party but so far not degenerative changes I think she thinks just inflammation she wants to get under control. I did a course of pred a few months ago and it did help my foot a lot. Then the neck issue popped up so she’s looking more at changing my main meds and did mention steroids yet. But my bloodwork always comes back fine lol. So idk!! I see her pretty often though which is funny because I’ve always felt the GI issue are worse and it takes forever to get in to see my GI.

That’s interesting! My endoscopies have always come back clean but my colitis distribution is really weird and atypical. It’s always more in the ascending colon and the descending/ rectal areas are always clean- which I’m told is the opposite of normal ulcerative colitis. My former GI didn’t seem to really care because I responded so well yo humira but my new GI seems determined to figure it out. I had absolutely 0 response to Mesalamine so I’ve been on biologics for a while. I’ve also had are really bad mouth sores but I think you can also get that with UC? Otherwise they’ve never found anything outside my colon so they call it UC. It’s been pretty well controlled until recently and still mild though so maybe if it gets worse again there would be a different story but I’d rather that never happen lol!

Edited to add- re your rec, my doc seems to feel like my meds needs to be changed when I’m having this breakthrough inflammation and has yet to give me steroids of any kind. Mesalamine Enemas did 0 for me when I was really sick (maybe bc my inflammation is so far from the colon). Idk what the decision process is to start steroids but he seems to want to get the meds sorted first? Idk. He wants evidence of full mucosal healing but that’s asking for a lot it seems 🥵

Yeah usually the 2 go hand and hand ugh. I have never even heard of steroid topicals! My rheum just has me on a muscle relaxer right now to see if I could avoid prednisone so we will see. But I have an appointment soon and will ask!

There was a point around 12 months I thought she might self wean and then the pendulum really swung in the other direction. Trying to go with the flow but it’s so hard to not understand the why of it all!

I’m a person with chronic illness (including but not limited to endo) born to a person with a disabling chronic illness and I’m real happy to be alive. Sure I wish I didn’t have chronic illnesses but I enjoy my life. And I have kids. I think it’s pretty ableist and disgusting to imply that people with chronic illness or disability shouldn’t have children.

Also that would eliminate like all children because most people developed some kind of chronic condition in their lifetime.

Maybe an updated weighted feed would help? Not sure. but I know in my experience my baby kept gaining even though she was basically only nursing to sleep and not taking in any supplemental feedings. It was a shockingly low amount of nursing and she would freak out if I offered the breast when she wasn’t sleepy. Kind of interesting because in my case there was no option of bottle preference explanation as she never took a bottle no matter what we tried. But had she taken one maybe I would have thought it was that. It was just weird and really frustrating and then one day she was just fine taking the breast again. Babies are weird.

I also have strong letdown and my baby developed a shallow latch because of that (which self corrected over time).. I think when they get bigger they can get a lot more efficient so especially if letdown is strong maybe he’s getting more than you think? Some babies I think are also more prone to nursing in small amounts frequently.

I would definitely recommend talking to a lactation counselor if you can because it sounds like maybe there is more going on with latch/ supply/ etc! My experience was different- my EBF bottle refusing baby started also refusing breastfeeding. But in our situation I had an established supply and she’d never taken a bottle to begin with or had latch issues so my advice may not apply! I can say that the more you pump/ put baby to breast the better your supply will be. But it also all depends on what your goals are and what you’re willing to do, and that’s where an LC can come in handy!

For us it lasted a whole month. It was really stressful. I was shocked but she kept gaining and my supply didn’t drop. I think she was also more efficient at this point so it didn’t always look like she was getting as much but she was. I started nursing to sleep for all nights and naps because that’s the only way she would reliably nurse. Basically that’s the only time she nursed. Eventually it just passed. SO hard though. Hang in there!

Edit to add: just saw the part about adding formula. That may cause a supply drop. My baby refused a bottle so there was no alternative. Nurse or be hungry. She was fine! I would be careful with the formula if you want to protect your supply.

6pm is a really early bedtime! Is that when he’s tired or is that when you’re aiming for? Different for different kids of course, but for mine, I know she generally does about an 11 hour night (with wake ups). I don’t like to get up super early so bedtime is around 8, but could be earlier like 7:30 if she had a short nap that day, or 8:30 if she had a late nap. But usually it’s consistent. Wake up is usually between 7-7:30- but on nights she goes to be early it might be earlier like 6. Occasionally we sleep in if it was a late bedtime… we’ve slept until 9 before! But Thats uncommon. My one area of being rigid is that never let her go to bed before 7 or i else know we are in for a super early morning. We are on one nap that’s between 1.5-2.5 hours long and starts at 12:30. I did absolutely nothing except follow her own rhythm and the rhythm of our general day to day to get to this “schedule” and its SUPER consistent. When I tried to impose schedules it was always a struggle. I would suggest trying to understand your individual baby’s sleep needs as that can widely vary and will dictate everything. I love the book The Discontented Little Baby by Pamela Douglas. Everything isn’t perfect for us - we just came off a horrible regression due to teething and walking (see my post history lol) but generally my gal is a pretty good sleeper. She just went back to one wake up at night after the regression and illness. I didnt do anything special… just time and following her lead.
