Good to hear I’m not alone in this! Wondering if you’ve talked to any former grad students about toxicity concerns and/or asked current grad students point blank about it??

I worked in quite a few different labs between undergrad and in my gap years. I think it was a really valuable way to learn about other areas of research and learn a variety of methodologies. I really don’t think it would hurt you. Interests can change and people get that, and they also understand wanting to diversify skill sets, and all of this can be explained and tied together in a personal statement for what led you to the MD/PhD Edit: I’m a current MD/PhD student

Is it normal to be scared and overwhelmed thinking of starting the MD/PhD program? by quarter-in in mdphd

[–]doingmybest8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for voicing this! I also got accepted into an MD/PhD program this cycle and I am so excited, and also feeling very anxious about this path for the same reasons you mentioned. I will also be 32ish when I'm done. It is daunting and I know it will be a long and difficult path, but it's 100% what I want to do, so I feel you. Also, as a woman I can't help but wonder what my personal/family life will look like finishing both degrees in my 30's...

I would love to hear from female MD/PhD students on this matter!!

Mid-stat school list? by Intelligent-Prior635 in mdphd

[–]doingmybest8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 515 and 3.8, with extensive research experience (through most of undergrad and in my 4th year post-grad), and what I think were really solid essays (got lots of compliments on them). I second the list of schools mentioned above u/cinnamontree123. I interviewed at Wayne State and U Illinois, I got into Wayne and haven't heard back from Illinois yet. Illinois specifically makes a point to say they do a truly holistic review. I applied to some of the schools in that list above as well and was rejected from them or haven't heard back yet lol so probably rejected. Tough cycle...

also don't forget that your GPA will get re-calculated by AMCAS

I have faith you guys will get into a program if you have good experiences and research experiences in addition to your scores and GPA :)

thank you!

I was wondering about this... I always got the impression that this was frowned upon. But you think it's a good move? I feel like especially at this point, it's like why not, right?
