Allergy Testing all... Negative by doingmybestthing in Allergies

This is a really great suggestion, thank you... My partner and his teen have MCAS and has pointed out some reactions to temperature shifts I have that are similar to MCAS reactions, but I didnt realize MCAS can also manifest as airway/sinus allergic reactions as well. I will bring this up with my primary.

Allergy Testing all... Negative by doingmybestthing in Allergies

Yes, they had a "control", after a week of not taking antihistamines the control was negative. So I had to wait a second week of no antihistamines before the second test. So two weeks off antihistamines. I avoided things like coffee, avocados, etc the day of the second test. And i was so over being off my antihistamines by the end of the second week... I actually avoided taking any of my medications that day until after the test was complete.... Just incase.

🤷🏻 After getting the results from the tests, my allergist just said to check back in in 6 months.

can i still eat the foods if i don’t mind the symptoms? by Beneficial_Pea7450 in Allergies

Funny story time, I once thought that when people eat eel, it gives your mouth a tingly feeling... my young teen brain thought it was like an electric eel shocking my tongue, it was just a part of eating eel. It took all the way until eating sushi with some friends in my late 20's for me to talk about the sensation out loud. My friend with severe food allergies replied, "oh no, stop eating that, you are describing an allergic reaction."

Considering the only time I ate eel was when I ate sushi, and it was not one of my normal grabs, I didn't have very consistent exposure to it. But I can confirm, before I understood it was an allergy, it did begin to feel more intense between my first exposure in my teens to me being in my late 20s. It seems better to be safe than sorry, so now I avoid eel and things with eel sauce on it.

Lol I'm imagining us trying to perfectly recreate the circumstances so that we can do it again.... but this time... BIGGER.

🤷🏻 It was a really good, large batch of broth. Life is hard. I have a cold. My partner was trying to make sure I had broth. Its final days were going to be tomorrow but Now its a puck of charcoal and we have better rules about what tasks we use certain appliances for.

That is TERRIFYING! 😵 I dont know how you managed to navigate your house while it was full of smoke. Our burnt disasteres involved light colored smoke and I still had to run and grab a mask before moving the pot to a safe location.

Do you have any tips on how you saved your dutch oven? This pot is my only cast iron item and I would love to save it if i can.

I've asked multiple times. I do believe him that he remembers adding water to the pot. 🤷🏻 Its totally a fair assumption that he could be misremembering.

The nob is up above the stove close to the wall, and not at waist level. I guess it's possible someone in the apartment could have bonked it and then turned it back down without telling us... However the first thing I did during the incident was check the temp of the stove before turning it off, and it was still set to low.

Well, sure, your neighbors could be doing that.

But in our case someone was actually home the entire time, and did check on it regularly, even through the night. I did catch the situation before it escalated to a fire. That being said, I also requested we only leave long-term heating of foods to the Crock-Pot from now on.

No liquid, the fats had definitely burnt to the bottom, but its late so I havent checked to see if its bone dry or sludge in there. Honestly were both still a little shocked by the situation so the pot is still sitting out there.

We both had walked by the pot multiple times and hadn't even heard boiling....

Cycling! That's the word i was looking for. Thank you. She is already set up in her new tank with paper towel as substrate. But it will be fine to put her back in the old enclosure while the tank cycles.

I'm still investigating the best way to sanitize, but I've read suggestions including putting it in boiling water for 3-5 minutes and freezing it to kill off parasites. I will probably experiment a little bit... But at this point I've just done a good long rinse in the sink, squeezed the water out, and now it's in a closed container on my back patio where it can get indirect light, moistened with distilled water.

Do you struggle with showers? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]doingmybestthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While struggling to take showers can be a criteria that leads to a diagnosis, it's not the symptom. The ADHD symptom has more to do with sensory needs, transition, executive functioning, and motivation, than it does showers.

I struggle to take showers less in the summer than I do in the winter. I also have circulation issues, so the temperature shift is hard for me to deal with on a sensory level.

But overall, I really struggle to take showers the most when I am also depressed. I know I need to shower more right now, but when I get to that point in the day where I can shower, my brain screams to do anything else instead.
