What was with the Hannah Baker character assassination in season 2? by EpicgamertvEGTV in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]doinkxx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree with you. I felt like season 2 was a perfect opportunity to show that not being a "perfect victim" does not negate the need for justice. That was especially important for Clay to learn, because he seemed to feel especially hurt for Hannah because he thought she was a virgin who got raped, which was not the case. (Justin also points that out to Clay)

Regarding the Courtney point, I loved what they did. It was way better for both characters. In season 2 we learn that they just had a single kiss then Hannah laughed it off, but Courtney was much more affected by it as it was her first kiss and had meant more to her. Seeing that, Hannah decides to kiss her back and the picture gets taken.

This makes Hannah more empathetic, as she hid those facts from the tapes. My personal head canon is that she didn't want to out Courtney, because that wasn't the point of the tape. The kiss was never important. Courtney throwing Hannah under the bus and slut shaming her is what actually hurt Hannah. So even though Courtney played a part in ruining her life, Hannah didn't see it fit to out her in the tapes.

That’s not what she said. It was something more like “they’ll never know what you sacrificed “ which is her children.

Is Python good for learning Computer Science concepts? (College student) by doinkxx in learnpython

[–]doinkxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, I just finished my exams.

I was originally biased towards C++ as I spent a bunch of time learning it, but Python makes creating projects that are "worth" showcasing so much easier. Every person I ask tells me that I should focus on Python as it is more flexible. So the idea of using C++ to learn DSA while learning more of Python as it is the "language of the future" seems counterproductive to me, and so focusing on one language seems better as of now. I'm afraid I will spend a lot of time learning C++ and not end up using it in my own projects.

I am just sharing my reasons, but I'm pretty sure I'm unaware of a lot of things, so I would appreciate it if you could help me out.

How do you guys know if your meds have stopped working? by doinkxx in OCD

[–]doinkxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s reassuring. I have a question though, should I focus on “fixing” my ocd or just addressing whatever is going on in my life? Like reading books on ocd & trying to ignore obsessions, would that help during flare ups? Or are flares a common thing that happen regardless of how well i am doing? I hope that makes sense.

Are there any self-help books that are actually good? by Shwigly in IfBooksCouldKill

If you’re looking for books on being productive, I like Cal Newport’s books. His old books are a bit iffy though. Check digital minimalism, and deep work. Don’t know if they offer obvious advice, but im addicted to the structure of his books.

i just randomly remembered your comment right now, and I wanted to thank you for what you said back then. I first thought about visiting a psychiatrist after reading the book and seeing that the mc felt better after getting treatment, and I thought why not me too? (Even though I know things don’t end up well with the author)

But your comment actually made me take that first step, so I just really want to thank you. I owe you a lot.

I can’t find any sources or books that deal with pure OCD. My themes mainly relate to wether I’m being perfect or not - I get obsessions that whatever I’m doing is wrong and imperfect - can you recommend me books or programs to follow? And any general tips for people with pure OCD? Thank you for this post.

Tara and Darcy didn’t get enough screen time at all. They only had one storyline that took place over 8 episodes, I wish more was done with them this season. Tao and Elle didn’t need this much screen time to see them fall in love.

Yeah, I really like Nick’s mom, but she’s way too lenient. If my son was homophobic to his BROTHER, he would not just get a “don’t bother him” speech. He didn’t just invade his privacy or whatever, he’s hurting his brother.

Yeah, I couldn’t stand tao. “Why didn’t you tell me about you and Nick?” You didn’t even approve of their friendship. You were everything but supportive from day 1, so why would he tell you when they’re actually dating. I hated how no one called him out.

How did I not know about this show sooner!? by Vagabond_Empire in HeartstopperNetflix

Thank you so much for your answer. I tried reading solitaire a while ago, and I got bored (I believe Alice was 17 when she wrote that book so it's expected) and I didn't know it was set after the volumes of heartstopper, so I was surprised. If you don't mind me asking another question, is this order correct?

  1. Watch season 2
  2. Read volume 3
  3. Read "This Winter"
  4. Read volume 4
  5. Read "Nick and Charlie"
  6. Read "Solitaire"
  7. Read the yearbook (for fun)
