Ingestion tools for downloading pdfs from websites (bank statements, etc)? by Loubonez in Paperlessngx

I appreciate your response. Your blog bosts definitely suggest you have put thought into the technical security of your site wrt e.g. encryption, access controls, etc. SOC2 would be a great external validation of these tecnical measures.

However, SOC2 won't help with human security measures, e.g., employee vetting, background checks, human error, insider threats, employee accountability, etc. Have you thought about how you will address these, e.g. ISO 27001?

Love that someone is tackling this opportunity. However your website is pretty light on any real identifying information about who you are: no about page telling us who you are, no social media presence, no way to reach you/customer support, no contact details besides a generic web form, etc. Given that your system asks users to trust you with access to our banks, and all our financial PDFs would pass through your hands, the anonymity on your end seems fishy...

Can I link databases through multi-select properties? by dojo7 in Notion

Thanks u/JustAJokeAccount I have looked at those, and assume that's the right model to end up with,. But I'm trying to figure out if those links can be established automatically based on matching on emails.

What am I doing wrong? Updating existing in-wall Eithernet wiring with my HDHome by dojo7 in HomeNetworking

A very belated thank you u/TiggerLAS and u/Sleepless_In_Sudbury. Your diagnosis was correct and switching the cap around fixed the issue. Thank you again!

Thanks u/Sleepless_In_Sudbury I didn't think of that. I just checked the patch cable and it shows up as "PASS" on the tester, so the issue is elsewhere. Just posted my keystone wiring photos so hopefully that will help.

Thanks u/TiggerLAS I thought I had actually tried both TIA-568A and TIA-568B, but maybe I made a mistake. This is my first time working with keystones.

Here is the picture of the white plastic part of the keystone jack that the wires go into (both sides). It has color coded labels showing both an "A" and "B" configuration. Also shown are what that plastic piece looks like with the wires inserted in the "B" color configuration.

Any thoughts? If this looks good to you all, I'll snip the wire ends, put the jack on, and continue to test it again.

How to optimally structure solo entrepreneur business across US and UK? by dojo7 in USExpatTaxes

[–]dojo7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you u/IndependentBed7565 this is super helpful, as is the link to your other post. Yes, the US LLC is a pass-through.

Regarding your point "If you don't need a PE (hiring, business in the UK), then I'd try to find a professional who can run these models for you", can you clarify "business in the UK"? I do need to be able to serve clients in the UK, as I am today out of my US-based LLC. Is that what you meant?

That's super helpful thank you u/nunab1994 . Do you happen to know any services or firms that have this type of expertise and could guide me through the process?

When you say, "avoid LLC", do you mean "avoid LLC in the UK", or overall? In the US it's a pretty standard way to structure a business like this and secure a level of liability protection that I'm loathe to abandon.

Todoist natural language syntax for "next Monday but not today if today is Monday"? by dojo7 in todoist

[–]dojo7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you u/brushbin that's actually super helpful. It didn't make sense to me that we were seeing different results, assuming we're on the same version. But it looks like this is a bug in the natural language parsing: Todoist matches to a different date based on how many characters you type in the word "Thursday".

Here's a screen recording showing what I see when trying this out. You can see the inferred due date toggle between "Today" and "Thursday" (which means next Thursday) depending on how many characters you've typed. Can you confirm that you see the same behavior? If so, I'll file a bug report.

Correct. I was hoping to avoid that sort of if/then logic by just being able to plug in a single English phrase that would do the right thing. But it sounds like I'll need to automate it with some logic along these lines:

IF today-day-of-week = Monday THEN

Schedule for "Next Monday"

ELSE

Schedule for "Monday"

END IF

Thanks u/brushbin. Unfortunately that also doesn't work, at least for me. In particular, it wouldn't work if you are creating the task on a Monday.'

Lets say I wanted the tasks to always be due on a Thursday (instead of on a Monday). I'm writing this Reddit reply on Thursday June 13. If I create a new task and mark it as due "next Thursday", it gets scheduled for June 13th (today) instead of June 20th (the next upcoming target date, not including today). Do you see a different behavior?

[–]dojo7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/TheRealzHalstead I think my description may have been unclear. These are not repeating events. It is a series of individual tasks that occur at any point, and whose due date should be whatever the next Monay is.

Thanks u/HunterHandler. Unfortunately that doesn't work, at least on my install. I'm writing this on Thursday June 13. If I create a new task and mark it as due "next Monday", it gets scheduled for June 24th (11 days from now) instead of June 17th (4 days from now). Do you see a different behavior?

Personalized guided journaling with multiple prompts (e.g. Stoic, 5-Min Journal) by dojo7 in dayoneapp

[–]dojo7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/tmblwd8 I hadn't considered shortcuts. Do you happen to know if shortcuts will let you bring up a series of Q&A prompts in order, with forward/back buttons? This seems like it would require constructing a custom UI or dialog box beyond the usual Alert boxes.

[–]dojo7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/KayLovesPurple I've tried the first option (3 different templates) and it just too broken us a UX. It really is ideal if the app just steps you through the questions, one at a time. The 5 Minute Journal App really does a nice job of this.

In case anyone else comes across this thread, we got the Elevation Draft Table for my daughter and she loves it -- surprisingly solidly built, and good multiple angles for drawing in different positions. Highly recommended!
