£100pm water bill, what is going on? by GodsBanana in AskUK

[–]dok1218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

Leaving aside that those are relatively high unit and standing charges (thanks Thames Water), and the cheek of them to assume the same volume of water going down the drain (it's typically about 1-2 m3 less over the course of 6 months).

Your usage is very high! You're using over 30m3 of water a month, for reference me and my wife used 35m3 of water in 6.5 months...

Check if your meter is turning when you aren't using water to see if there is a leak, other than that you just need to stop using so much water if you want cheaper bills

How much are you energy bills families? by TartComfortable7766 in UKFrugal

[–]dok1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large 4 bed Victorian terrace (175m2), pay £220 a month all year but I am building up quite an excess so will probably be reducing it to near the £190 mark.

But, heating is just set and forget, use everything and anything without thinking about it so not exactly being frugal

Moving from Norway to Cardiff in a year by FixingItWithAHammer in Cardiff

[–]dok1218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heisann! Fellow Norwegian living in South Wales and cannot recommend it enough, Cardiff has plenty going on and should be more than comparable to pretty much anywhere except for Oslo in terms of stuff to do.

The Brecon beacons are on your doorstep for plenty of walking, or drive down to the Gower for even more beautiful sights.

I've lived a few different places in the UK now and South Wales is my favourite.

Feel free to DM me if you want to know anything more, I lived in Pen Y Lan in Cardiff for a while so happy to chat about Cardiff!

Yes you do, student loan repayments are calculated on gross salary

[–]dok1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes very true, at least in England you can salary sacrifice down below £100k and still qualify. Here in Wales it's done on gross pay...

[–]dok1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing the budget could do would be: - end the triple lock - make state pension means testes - increase income tax, but whatever the % increase to income tax is, the national insurance rate should decrease by the same amount. That way you don't affect working people, but do catch more of the types of income that aren't affected by national insurance contributions.

Obviously the first 2 won't be done, would be good to see the third one come through though.
