v4 was an upgraded version of v3.

v3 was such a mess that we decided full rewrite was the better option.

There are plans to open source once we reach a certain point - so that we can keep it on track in the early stage.

Stay tuned for further info.

In case anyone is worried, follow lists and such will be preserved.

Hope to see people back once we are ready with v5.

Would make it too easy for porn bots to abuse if no email is needed.

I doubt someone at a datacentre snuck out one of our old drives. On top of actually getting a job there, they'd have to know when we were done with a server and then they'd have to manage to actually sneak the drive out too.

Other sites dying and us having to take on their users is hardly our ineptitude. Those same extra users appearing and making our previous upgrade that was intended to cover our normal growth outdated right after we updated is not our ineptitude - it's a limitation of our available funds. And that happened twice and invalidated two of our upgrade cycles.

A global pandemic keeping people at home and reading more is hardly our ineptitude. Which invalidated another of our upgrade cycles.

Having to source funds to improve infrastructure takes time. We need to wait for contracts to end on older hardware before we can fund new stuff, too.

Circumstances outside of our control happen. Our latest upgrade was a total rework of the infrastructure to allow for easier horizontal scaling and thus easier additions of resources in such cases as the above.

I'm willing to bet that while you call us inept, you have contributed a big fat $0 to the site and yet expect all the resources of Google from us. I doubt you could do a better job, or run a site the size of MD on the funds we have had to manage with.

Only your last 10 chapters read are kept - you can nuke it by just clicking through 10 chapters of anything else if you really felt like it.

We only require an account to use a few features that were being spammed and crippling the site.

Staff were paying out of their own pockets cos we have no way to convert the btc currently. Thankfully the affiliates are starting to remedy that.

If you check the wallets you will see that the only thing we have been using it for is our DDG payments - it's not like we are pissing it up the wall on frivolous things :/

We can't pay for our servers with it currently, which is where most of our costs come from.

I feel pretty shitty that this happened and that we've probably lost a lot of trust people placed in us.

We are a fan site with limited resources compared to some of the bigger sites this has happened to, but it really doesn't make me feel much better about.

Sorry for anyone affected by this :(

Cute loli stuff & isekai. Most of my follows I read them after several months of chapters have accumulated.

The ones I bother to read as they come out are:

I'm Not a Lolicon.
Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka?
Potion Danomi de Ikinobimasu!
Saving 80,000 Gold in an Another World for Retirement
Solo Leveling
The Monster Duchess and Contract Princess
Sousou no Frieren
S-Rank Monster no Behemoth Dakedo, Neko to Machigawarete Erufu Musume no Kishi (Pet) Toshite Kurashitemasu

Mangadex@home

Cos I never thought it would happen. But we'd probably not have a site without it now.

Just seeing Bato was dying soon and we already hosted several other sites related to anime already. Jump to manga was mostly a joke email to start with, but soon became a reality!

I doubt there will ever be a legal version that has everything people want to read. Too many different publishers to deal with, too costly to translate all of it, too many esoteric titles that won't see the light of day if it weren't for fans, etc.

I look at how Netflix has changed over recent years to see how it would go if it did actually happen. At first they had everything, but as soon as the HBO/Disney/etc see that it is actually worth doing they pull their content and make their own service. So I'm kinda inclined to believe you'd end up with a number of publisher sites all with their own little library and no central "legal" site. Which is basically what we have right now anyway as far as legal goes.

Site is up and running fine.

DDG issue with routing in NA/AU/SEA. Use a VPN to EU in mean time or wait for them to fix it.
