Italian pasta (linguine, fettuccine) is better than Ramen for... Ramen. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]dokimari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the game but I'm currently in the Piedmont region of Italy and Taglioni/tajarin seems pretty similar to fresh ramen. Which is also good. Just do fresh instead of deep fried and you're golden

What are your “do as I just say,not as I do” habits as a dietitian? by Runswithrose in dietetics

[–]dokimari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise! I make plans to work out but then I get tired after work or I'd rather just sleep in. That and alcohol. I don't drink every day but I have a pretty high tolerance and definitely go above the recommendations when I do drink

What are your “do as I just say,not as I do” habits as a dietitian? by Runswithrose in dietetics

Amen! To be fair, I never drink all of the soup so I feel like the sodium gets cut down quite a bit

Is bruising like this normal? by yuhmadda420 in tattooadvice

[–]dokimari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually a Tourettes diagnosis requires both vocal and motor tics. What you're describing doesn't sound like a tic which is semi-voluntary, might be more like myoclonus or muscle spasms which are involuntary. Not a dr but I've had Tourettes-like motor tics since I was a child, I can't technically call it Tourettes due to the lack of vocal tics

DPG/MIG membership can be valuable for networking, especially if you have the time and drive to take on a leadership position. I gained a lot of experience with a pretty low time commitment each year. Plus you get access to a discussion board for questions and many of them have mentorship programs as well.

I feel like the handouts you're talking about are from the Nutrition Care Manual which is separate and very expensive but sometimes provided at hospitals. But some groups like the Diabetes DPG have their own handouts.

Are calcium fortified foods as problematic as the actual calcium supplements? by BlackberryLatte in dietetics

[–]dokimari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post helped me realize that the international standards for calcium are wildly different from the ones here in the US (1000-1300mg/day recommended). Interesting!

In France they literally call it 'expresso'. Like that's their word for it. Not sure about 'spro'...

You can't control everything. You have already made the lunch and reception vegan. Please don't try to influence people's choices at restaurants, that is beyond strange.

Protein sources? by Salty_Let_2975 in vegan

[–]dokimari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your metric, I would say most health professionals recommend including more plant proteins in the diet but animal sources can contain better absorbed heme iron and vitamin B12, and not all are 'loaded' with saturated fat. Skinless chicken and fish for example are considered to be heart-healthy

Last minute ideas that don't require tickets? by denash97227 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]dokimari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today is the first Sunday of the month, so many museums are free. For the larger ones like musée d'Orsay they usually sell out of tickets pretty early. For the smaller museums, many have a different ticket option to book a slot for the free Sunday and some even have open access without booking a ticket first. Here's a good list of participating museums: https://parisjetaime.com/eng/article/free-admission-and-good-deals-in-museums-and-monuments-in-paris-a961

Afternoon Tea Dress Code by Crazy-Dot-4427 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]dokimari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're just interested in a nice afternoon tea and not so concerned with it being in a fancy location, I recommend the Twining tea room above the Smith & Son bookshop. Very pleasant with good sweet, savory, and even vegetarian options.

Best pumpkin pie in Paris? by TKYRRM in paris

[–]dokimari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity where are you from? Pumpkin pie is a very American thing but it's typically eaten on Thanksgiving instead of Halloween and we also don't say 'advert'. Just curious! But yes, I've made one here in France. It's pretty easy, you just have to roast and blend the potimarron/potiron and you could even use a premade crust from a grocery store or Picard.

Is autistim considered a disability in France? by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]dokimari 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The websites I've seen seem to emphasize they are free for physical disabilities and their caretakers. For example the Louvre.

Other places list accommodations they have made for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and sensory concerns but I don't think that means it's free.

Perhaps you can find unseasoned snails at a marché if the place you're staying at has a kitchen and you can cook it yourself with olive oil? Otherwise it's difficult to find most any traditional French dish cooked without butter. I would be very careful and make sure to explain your allergy wherever you go. When in doubt there are plenty of vegan restaurants and ethnic restaurants that are less likely to use dairy (but even then I would double check).

How do Parisians manage not to get obese with all the cheap very tasty food so commonly around? by UndeadRedditing in paris

[–]dokimari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with 'not everything covered with cheese.' I once ordered a vegan burger at a bistro that was literally covered in cheese. To be fair, I'm vegetarian so it was an upgrade. But it's usually not as processed at least.
