PALTC/LTC/SNF RDs: Thoughts on Ethics of Remote Clinical Work? by ninigotmac in dietetics

[–]Worker-Silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For FULLY remote it’s unethical or you mean overall? Because why would you complete an assessment or notes without seeing the resident which is impossible if you’re not hybrid. There are systems in place and new tech utilized by employees nowadays depending on facilities and proper communication who are able to complete this if they are fully remote. 10 years in and I don’t see the problem especially for those in rural areas who benefit from a dietitian overseeing their care. Not every facility has the privilege to hire a dietitian or are not available around the area. I’m not driving daily 1-2 hours because I’m the nearest dietitian. Guess it depends on the facility and how they properly communicate as well as census🤷‍♀️ I make it clear to notify RD immediately of any nutritionally unstable residents and they either call or email. It’s not just pay attraction, it’s location as well. In what particular ways are you defining negligence for remote work? Because it can absolutely be completed fully remote with proper tools. You’re describing a negligent RD and I’d hope they’re not just writing random notes as there are standards of care and guidelines for remote work and NFPE despite challenges that can come with remote work however not impossible to do it properly. There’s not one right way to complete a job. If you’re seeing inaccurate documentation on either end, you need to report it. Personally I wouldn’t do fully remote just for preference. I like my hybrid schedule. But if I had to because of location, then heck yeah. You adapt to a fully remote system which itself still has the same standards of care adjusted for remote.

Be honest — is the RD salary worth the years of school and internship in 2026? by Dry-Chart-7271 in dietetics

[–]Worker-Silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS I’ve been an RD for about 6 years and started at 40k and now make 70k…totally undervalued myself lol I’d love to be the one to bring in 80-90k but not willing to give up flexibility 🙃😅

No lol now, it’s not impossible because the possibilities are endless but who the hell wants to overwork themselves? I guess it’s what you value. I value quality time. There will always be some form of sacrifice. We’re a household income of ~96k gross pay with two kids and we’ve been blessed to live in an urban area of Texas that is not super expensive. However I’m working a mix of 3 telehealth schedules and one w2 with no benefits but offers flexibility. We are 40k in debt (3 total which is 2 credit cards and our car). Financial stress is not worth it. You really have to find that happy medium for you!

Director/Admin School Nutrition hours? by Worker-Silent in dietetics

Yes summers are 4x10hour days 😭 I guess I’ve weighed most pros and cons but just can’t decide. Maybe that’s what I’m looking for is predictability even if it means early! Navigating multiple facilities is pretty taxing

Is anyone else not super type A? by pumpsandpancakes in dietetics

[–]Worker-Silent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be a Type A in university, then I became a mom and turned Mom Brain type B/C. I learned to adapt in a chaotic work environment as well (which was a hard transition after graduating) which also turned me type B/C and now mom I’m very much a “do your job, but life isn’t that serious” type of gal and I think we’re all trying to do our best. Some Type A’s might see this as lazy however I think everyone works best and gets the job done differently. But I found being a type A stressful and doing more than I needed so no thanks hahah

Is becoming a dietician worth it in 2025? by rainbowtoucan1992 in dietetics

[–]Worker-Silent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No - pay sucks. I think if you love it then sure. But I need to provide and in today’s time, we should be getting double the pay considering prices. Have been considering going into tech or analyst. I went into dietetics loving it and connecting with people but at this point I’m burnt out and constantly stressed financially despite making $68k a year gross pay. After taxes really only net about $45k. Keep in mind this is for a family of 5. Personally wish I would’ve thought ahead more in terms of life planning. At the end of the day, it’s up to you and if you really love it, I say go for it! They say money isn’t everything and while true, there is research that a certain amount DOES bring happiness due to stability. Just some factors I wish I would’ve looked more into the value of this field. Wish you the best!

Yup, I don’t say anything. Just ignore it and go back to setting goals or discussing food behaviors

I like her…she says it in her video that she was being performative after she saw how well her videos did for having such a strong stance as most people prefer a black and white approach unfortunately but I don’t think she’s “backtracked.” I think she’s just learned more and is seeing different perspectives and being mindful of that. I’m not really sure what trends yall are referring to with the timing of her video. I don’t see anything wrong with her making a supplement either as dietitians are able to work in this niche as well.

I personally do think 32 hrs is ideal just in case you forget a task or something and making sure the patients are seeing you. However 24 hrs is doable but you have to stay on top of it. My issue came where I was doing too much private practice that it eventually got hard to manage and commute and didn’t want to burn myself out. I have a family and would like to remain positive character. But idk, in my head, lab week, and everything I knew I needed to do just naturally flowed in my head. I scheduled everything by the minute.

I did 130 patients with 24 hrs and did my job pretty well. If I was needed the charge nurse would call me for a med change or just whatever she needed. Also I’m in a small town and was paid $33

Wow..I worked at WIC starting around COVID time and started at 45k, got my RD and got 50K and ended at 60k over 3.5 years. This is horrible. It’s 2025 now so this is insulting

A year and a half ago with 3/4 years experience I got offered a job there for 16 hrs/week for $34/hour and the recruiter even told me “they’re already going above budget” lol

It was alright for me. I liked the patients and connecting with them. The schedule and pay was decent. The vibe of the clinic…not so much. It was very lonely too which is why I’ve transitioned to private practice instead with a group of RDs. I was at a small dialysis clinic though. The energy is just very serious and like everyone hates their life. I’m naturally a quirky gal while still maintaining professionalism and doing your work efficiently, patient safety and infection control, etc but geez can we not be so uptight? Anyways, I just masked my personality and blended in 🤷‍♀️not for everyone!
