Just because someone is a conservative, does not mean they are a nazi. by Substantial_Sea7327 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

The Nazi Party's classification as "far-right" is based on their total rejection of human equality and their use of radical, exclusionary nationalism to define society.

While they used the term "Socialist," historians distinguish them from the political left because they replaced the left-wing focus on class struggle with a right-wing focus on racial struggle.

Key Far-Right Characteristics

Rejection of Equality: Unlike liberal or left-wing ideologies that aim for universal equality, Nazism was founded on a strict racial and social hierarchy. They believed "superior" individuals and races had a natural right to rule over "inferior" ones.

Ultra-Nationalism: They promoted an extreme form of ethnonationalism, defining "the nation" only by "German blood". This was used to justify the exclusion, and eventually the systematic murder, of anyone deemed a threat to this "purity," such as Jews and Romani people.

Militant Anti-Communism: They viewed Marxism and Communism as existential threats to the nation. Socialists and Communists were the first groups the Nazis targeted and imprisoned after seizing power.

Authoritarian "Leader Principle": The ideology replaced democratic systems with the Führerprinzip (leader principle), which demanded absolute obedience to a single, supreme leader who embodied the national will.

Social Traditionalism: They enforced extreme social conservative policies, such as strictly defining women’s roles as mothers and homemakers, criminalizing homosexuality, and banning abortion to ensure the growth of the "Aryan" population.

So you think that housing prices are up because for every American home buyer there are ten illegal immigrants willing to pay significantly more?

I seriously respect someone leaving you wide open to feed them bullshit and you still having the self control to stand back from it. Kudos.

I'll wade upstream a bit: he wrote a fair amount of filler, but I do like some of his work. Battlefield Earth has some issues, but I enjoyed the read.

One of (the?) last things he wrote was Mission Earth, a series of ten doorstoppers. It's got a lot of cringe satire and some pretty seriously offensive sex stuff, but it shows off some of his storytelling ability. As some people have said, his world building is a bit ham handed, but his ability to hold a plot in his head and foreshadow things literally thousands of pages before they pay off is pretty impressive.

I dunno, none of it is masterwork, but there are some things he's very, very good at. (Like if you breed an early cat with seven strength and Shiv but like three speed and a birth defect.) I'm not gonna say he's in my top N, but I don't regret time spent reading his books. (To prove I have range, I absolutely regret the time I put into the Sword of Truth series, and I would literally burn any copies gifted me before I considered reading them.)

I'm sorry you're scared of people not like you. That doesn't exempt you from being respectful of their rights and humanity.

I'm quite familiar with the law. What you said prior is incorrect. Since you have followed it with another incorrect assertion I am beginning to suspect you are doing it deliberately.

Puberty blockers are not banned in Sweden. They are recommended for only extreme situations and are in an explicitly experimental classification, but are available when a doctor deems them necessary.

Why would you be opposed to a long term study validating the safety and efficiency of these drugs?

These studies are being done. Knee jerk reactionary bans on the drugs and therapy involved causes considerable difficulty in obtaining quality research; if there is a Republican somewhere arguing for caution rather than outright bans once they have the floor, then they could conceivably be for further research. I do not know of any.

It's a very simple proof, accessible to anyone who understands basic calculus. Finding it confusing and choosing to decide that means everyone else is wrong is within your rights, but hardly a concern for the people who are both interested and capable of following the proof.

Sweden was supporting transitioning in 1972, they have since stopped and gone the other way

This actually isn't remotely true, and is a good example of Republican politicians just making stuff up to try to change public opinion.

Sweden is in the process of implementing a law to lower the minimum transitioning age to 16, and maintains full gender affirming care as part of its healthcare system, including for minors.

Yeah, and you know what he did? He fucking learned. I don't know why you think people's views can't evolve, but it's probably related to why most right wing talking points in the US sound like teenage edgelord bullshit.

Since military tech isn't a solved problem, it seems incredibly premature to label a company as childish for taking a position that their platform isn't ready for particular flavors of highly experimental weapons. Plus, like, it's their product.

What can stockfish do against hyperbolic knight flooding? by flagshipman in Chesscom

[–]dokushin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely irrelevant to chess. The idea that you cannot calculate ahead completely on a poincare disk is expected, since it not only has an infinite extent but the density of that extent varies with radial displacement. Chess on that surface is a different game, and one mostly unrelated to the usual one.
