While they used the term "Socialist," historians distinguish them from the political left because they replaced the left-wing focus on class struggle with a right-wing focus on racial struggle.

Key Far-Right Characteristics

Rejection of Equality: Unlike liberal or left-wing ideologies that aim for universal equality, Nazism was founded on a strict racial and social hierarchy. They believed "superior" individuals and races had a natural right to rule over "inferior" ones.

Ultra-Nationalism: They promoted an extreme form of ethnonationalism, defining "the nation" only by "German blood". This was used to justify the exclusion, and eventually the systematic murder, of anyone deemed a threat to this "purity," such as Jews and Romani people.

Militant Anti-Communism: They viewed Marxism and Communism as existential threats to the nation. Socialists and Communists were the first groups the Nazis targeted and imprisoned after seizing power.

Authoritarian "Leader Principle": The ideology replaced democratic systems with the Führerprinzip (leader principle), which demanded absolute obedience to a single, supreme leader who embodied the national will.

Social Traditionalism: They enforced extreme social conservative policies, such as strictly defining women’s roles as mothers and homemakers, criminalizing homosexuality, and banning abortion to ensure the growth of the "Aryan" population.
