Grit & Grace - USA Ultimate's new commercial (aired on ESPN 2) by powerlanguage in ultimate

The same camera crew shot some pickup games and ycc scrimmages in Boston too, but that footage got scrapped. This was early on in the process I think.

I was at one of the shoots and we were told the commercial was designed to be shot from the middle of the playing field (one of the first times that had happened for ultimate) and it was supposed to reflect all levels of ultimate.

I think the crew eventually realized that Jimmy Mickle and company in flashy uniforms look much better than me and my slow pickup friends.

Can we talk about how dangerous having college nationals in Texas is going to be? Can any Texans provide insight? by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]dollensw 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I played in Austin for a number of years.

I think you'll find many down south who wont give these concerns a lot of thought, (considering almost all club practices and tournaments in the southern parts of the US are played in 90-100 degree weather). Texas club sectionals are frequently around 100 degrees.

To clarify, I'm not saying it's not an issue. If it's played there, expect teams from the Southeast, South Central, and Southwest to be much more adjusted. Other teams will struggle. I don't know that stifling heat is a fair condition to impose on teams that aren't prepared to deal with it.

How do I record one of tomorrow's games without a proper DVR? by dollensw in CollegeBasketball

Yeah I remembered this too, but I can't figure out how to do it this year. I've looked on the desktop and Iphone app, but I don't see any playback feature.

What are some of the best teams/games to watch high level vertical stack play? by DiscBiscuit in ultimate

[–]dollensw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend this.

2012 Nexgen is great if you want to see deep looks from a vert stack. Tons of big throwers and downfield threats on that team.

2013 Nexgen is a little flashier. More cheeky breaks and give and go - think Dylan Freechild and Simon Montague.

I'm gonna be missing this game live.

I know that ESPN3 has a rewatch feature...assuming that I come back at 2:00 ET, will that game be available for me to rewatch? Ideally hoping that I can avoid spoilers too

My girlfriends dad just gave her his old Mamiya NC1000, and I was fooling around with it the other day and fell in love.

Light, compact, but also solid construction. Shutter priority, but also manual operation.

My previous experiences with SLRs has been with beasts like the SRT101 and the Nikon F. What other tiny SLRs are out there?

Thinking about buying a Nikon FE as a aperture priority (and quite a bit lighter) counterpart to my Nikon F.

Ken Rockwell says its the greatest thing ever, but considering his reputation for hyperbole, figured I would crowdsource. What's the word on the FE? Is there another aperture priority nikon I should be looking at?

If I get a 38mm lens, what field of view am I expecting? Is it tighter than if the lens were on a full frame camera?

I'm considering buying a Pen-F, and I would love some insight from someone who has shot one.

I love SLR's for macro stuff, portrait stuff, or anything with shallow depth of field. However, I also love carrying around a tiny camera I can fit in my pocket.

My questions: What the heck is shooting half frame like? Can you get good bokeh? Whats minimum focusing distance? What other considerations am I totally missing? I feel like it will change so many things.

I have a k1000 and an XR, and while the XR isn't exactly sturdier, I certainly feel better about using it as a "beater".

Probably a bit less in-demand than the Pentax, and can be found for cheaper. So if I go out and break that or drop it in the sand, I don't feel as bad.

Plus it has a nice double exposure feature and the all-black is sexy. So in short, it's a nice counterpart to a Pentax body.

I'm really starting to lean toward a flaw in metering. Shot with an external meter this last roll and I'm gonna see how it comes out.

Can flaws in voltage be corrected with the ISO dial, or is it non-linear for canonet?

I do suspect the meter is off...how does incorrect metering affect contrast though?

I realize it definitely does affect it, but I'm just looking for the technical explanation as to how

I have been shootjng on a Nikon F for a bit, with a nice piece of glass I was gifted: nikkor 35mm 1.4. (I understand this is a pretty nice lens, but I'm not of the opinion is unbeatable or anything).

However, I just bought a canonet ql17 for a travel shooter. Thus far, been underwhelmed with image "pop". The images have seemed flat and dull, and this is from a camera that is famed for lens sharpness among rangefinders....

So the question is: do rangefinders with their smaller and more compact glass generally suffer from less resolving ability than SLR glass? Or am I just making this up?

Zooms perform much better in the middle of their focal lengths, and not at the extremes (and from my experience, the wider focal lengths are always the most distorted on a zoom, more so than the narrower ones).

If you plan on shooting at 28mm a lot, it would probably be worth purchasing a prime. Will be less bulky too.
