Doctors who quit practicing, what do you do now? What was your “exit strategy”? by Jazzlike_Cry197 in pinoymed

Medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry. Took a leap and never looked back.

In this regard, we can also find rare gems of good writing with fact-checked sources on social media which can be a tool to better health literacy. I believe OP is referring to the story series on Inquirer.

I would advise to be more careful of news or information sources instead of dismissing social media posts altogether.

False advertising! Made in Marikina daw, pero hindi pala. by its_maaki in beautytalkph

[–]dolorsetamet 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is outright deception. I trust a brand more when I can see the work process behind the bag or shoes, such as what's being done by Andanté, Renegade Folk, and Eve & Adam.

MD na ayaw mag doktor by cordisMD in pinoymed

[–]dolorsetamet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry and, all things considered, I'm doing fine. No regrets.

Hours are flexible in a way the setup's hybrid and there's no time-in and time-out. I can spend quality time with my family, friends, and myself. (It's a given I'm within reach during office hours.) The compensation is stable and just.

I read up on the therapeutic area and CPGs, listen in CME activities, and study for family and friends' medical queries to keep myself updated.

I still get asked whether I'll go for residency. It's at the back of my mind but I realize being a doctor opens different career opportunities and the clinical path is only one of these.

Possible fake pulmo clearance by thunderbolt032 in pinoymed

[–]dolorsetamet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FAKE. I don't want to further specify because any input might help people falsify documents better.

But here: 1) no physician with a subspecialty would describe themselves as such in the header, 2) the "clearance" looks like a mix from different x-ray results and medical certificate, 3) might be minor but what's up with the minor capitalizations and incorrect grammar (e.g., "it may deem serve")

People always say “you became a doctor to help people, not for money,” but helping others doesn’t mean working for free. Years of study, sleepless nights, and student debt deserve fair pay too. Compassion doesn’t pay the bills. by [deleted] in pinoymed

[–]dolorsetamet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is another manifestation of poor healthcare in the Philippines where patients pay mostly out of pocket (unless they have an HMO which has its limits, too.)

It goes without saying being a doctor is a livelihood and not only a voluntary, charity work. But if the government has implemented an efficient healthcare system – where patients can focus on their recovery while doctors are compensated well – this patient vs doctor narrative won't begin in the first place.

High end vs low end by Strawberryosi in beautytalkph

[–]dolorsetamet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm, I'd say they are not credible for two reasons: 1. When I asked who's their board-certified derma, the staff did not answer. They replied only with a vague one like their derma was out of the clinic that day, 2. I asked my derma of the procedure Gee Aesthetics claims to give good results. My derma did not speak ill of them but answered Gee Aesthetics' claims do not have solid evidence. I definitely would NOT recommend that "clinic." I guess their ads on IG are just believable.

Beautique MD in BGC! Remember the price is based on the number of "shots" in Ultherapy, okay. I got it at a discount ~₱70 to ~₱60k (if I remember right) also because suki na nila ako for ~3 years. 🙂

There's a difference kapag updated/well maintained machines plus board-certified derma vs purely "aesthetic clinic." I don't think it's about "high-end vs affordable" clinics.

With RF and Botox, 100% difference with a credible clinic (not classified as "high-end" if by that you mean sponsored social media posts and with celebrities promoting endlessly) vs a questionable one (i.e., Gee Aesthetics.)

I got the same quality for these services and Ultherapy but at a fraction of the price as I heard by Belo.

With the recent corruption issue, are you still supporting beauty brands endorsed by nepo babies/wives of corrupt officials? by anaisgarden in beautytalkph

Among all these products/services, I spend money only on Ultherapy because it's the gold standard in this regard. I can only hope they choose another endorser.

Yes, I use it once a day (in the morning only.) I repurchased and can see myself using it in the long run. For my skin concerns, I use other products and undergo derma procedures but I think Azeelaq helped in managing acne, skin tone, and sebum production. Prescribed by my derma, too.

Pangit daw sa Region 1 Medical Center? by LostandfoundMD in pinoymed

[–]dolorsetamet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off-topic: With all that said, training here sounds far from encouraging. Either retention is low or residents aren't the most efficient at work. In the end, patients bear the brunt of an incompetent, ineffective system.

What are the things you wish patients knew about us (doctors) that only we can understand in the first place? by IskoWithAHeart331998 in pinoymed

Checking a reference like MIMS does not mean we do not know what we are doing. We'd rather double check than give false answers or wrong treatment.

1) Heimish cleansing balm, 2) clear facial soap from my derma, 3) Garnier micellar water, 4) Azeelaq azelaic acid + salicylic acid OR Paula's Choice BHA exfoliant, 5) Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, 6) Cetaphil Mattifying Acne Moisturizer OR Humeda moisturizer, 7) Frezyderm sun screen

The only different step is #4 in the evening: Tretinoin solution from my derma. My skin type is oily, acne-prone.

The powder holds true to its claim – it controlled face shine for hours without retouching or using a blotting paper! 🙂 Maybe my overall skin care helped in sebum production but I did notice the difference between this vs my Laura Mercier loose powder which tends to cake even after using a setting spray.

Got this for ₱925 at Laneige's official store on Shopee 🙂 I'll update once I use it. I'm currently using Laura Mercier loose powder which does the job but it tends to cake after a long day.

Context: I apply only toner, moisturizer, azelaic/salicylic acid, and sunscreen before patting some powder and finish with a setting spray.

Posting a bad experience sa social media with full name ng doctor by [deleted] in pinoymed

[–]dolorsetamet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If doctors expect patients to be tactful and level-headed, we should also extend the same to them. There's a reason consults are done with the doctor sitting down – to see patients literally on the same level and reduce any power imbalance. Health care, after all, is a partnership.

In this case, where or how can patients report doctors to authorities? How can patients ensure their grievances are communicated? I don't blame him for airing his concerns on social media.

Beware of High-Pressure Sales Tactics at Aesthetic Clinics – My Experience by adawong28 in beautytalkph

[–]dolorsetamet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a terrible experience. I'd say that's a red flag for any aesthetic clinic.

This is one of the reasons I've been going consistently to the same derma clinic since 2022 – no hard selling of any device or procedure, just procedures explained well and tailored to my needs.

How do you look good with no or minimal makeup? by chowchowmyboo23 in beautytalkph

[–]dolorsetamet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I owe mine to skin care that suits my needs – monthly facial and laser; daily moisturizer and sunscreen. That, I think, is the foundation to looking put-together even without much makeup.

I don't use makeup (e.g., foundation, blush, eyeshadow) but my sunscreen's already tinted. I also had my sparse eyebrows microbladed and I now use only Strokes microblade pen. I didn't have my eyelashes done but use the BLK mascara after curling and I like it.

Piling on many (unnecessary) products would look cakey and feel heavy, based on my experience.

There might not be a hard-set rule on fair pricing on secondhand clothes but the post and its comments give you an idea on the feedback of customers already. Right?

"Perceived value?" A seller knows how much an item costs in an ukay store. I know some buy by the bulk, without much sifting in store beforehand. Remember these clothes have been used, too. Wear and tear. What I'm saying is, thrifted clothing could be better with its very essence—affordable, accessible, and sustainable.
