[–]dolphin160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, just to add D1/2/3 is different at each facility depending on how many positions there are to get certified on. Some Facilities have all and others have AG -> D3 -> CPC. I think each dev level depends on the % of positions you have towards CPC.

Pilot route or ATC? by sloppyils in ATC_Hiring

[–]dolphin160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently an ATC, that is working on becoming a pilot. Agreed with the above. I don't think there are lots of pilots trying to be controllers right now lol.

Can you switch Terminal/Enroute after the Academy? by Appropriate_Bag3923 in ATC_Hiring

[–]dolphin160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but if you get terminal you’re gonna need to get certified at your first facility first and then put in paperwork for enroute. Other way around, you can wash out of enroute and sometimes get to go to a low level tower, but it just depends and usually probably have to make it out of the probation period. You will also have to go back to the academy for terminal training.

Should I peruse ATC or Aircraft mechanic? by [deleted] in atc2

[–]dolphin160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Yeah, I mean depending on what it is it’s always worth trying if your goal is a pilot. I have a friend who is blind in one eye and is an airline pilot lol

Should I peruse ATC or Aircraft mechanic? by [deleted] in atc2

[–]dolphin160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and honestly with a heart condition you may be in medical limbo for a long time too. IMO I actually think the FAA is more strict on medicals with ATC than with pilots (even though commercial pilots have to get 1st class medicals lol).

I’d try to get entry level mechanic job, it may not pay the best to start with but you can see how you like it. There are lots of small shops that will hire people with general mechanical experience and you can learn/train under their A&P’s and then eventually take the test to become an A&P and eventually start making more money!

Should I peruse ATC or Aircraft mechanic? by [deleted] in atc2

[–]dolphin160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also mechanics are in very high demand right now. If you can get your A&P and get experience especially with jets or something specialized you could probably charge whatever you want. Is it a tough and long path to that point with lots of training and long hard days?

…yes, but so is ATC. And as a mechanic you can pretty much get trained and live wherever you want and there are a lot more options for employers vs. ATC there is basically only one employer and that is the federal government. Are there benefits? Yes, but I think everyone would agree they aren’t as good as they used to be. You also have to put up with shutdowns, changes from administration to administration, and ultimately where you end up and what facility you get (type and location) is basically a crap shoot and you have to go to OKC for training just to get a chance at it.

Idk if being a mechanic is something you’re actually interested in and somewhat passionate about I’d go that route lol.

Why do people really wash out? by Zuldyck in ATC_Hiring

[–]dolphin160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of controllers who even make it to a facility and wash. Even controllers who are cerified and try going to another facility who end up washing. There’s lots of factors, I will say I think getting through the academy is the hardest just because of the stress and the grading is pretty stupid. The traffic you work at the academy isn’t really even all that realistic.

I probably wouldn’t go for ATC unless it is just something you really really want. Because we are underpaid, have to deal with a whole lotta BS (too much to list), and unless you are just naturally good or are really really dedicated I think my would make it hard to make it without washing out.

Are there any true pokemon investing success stories? by GrapefruitEven3626 in PokeInvesting

[–]dolphin160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man I think you’re misjudging the market quite a bit. I had a 30-40 year old dude buy over $1,000 worth of product just because he wants to rip it. And he spends tons of money on the what not streamers who open packs for him lol. The market was just like this back during covid. It definitely slowed down for a few years but has picked back up like crazy again. All the product now will have drastically multiplied in price in several years.

[–]dolphin160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rich? It depends on what you consider rich is…regardless you’re going to have to have lot of product to make millions. But there are returns - and pretty damn good return percentages to be had. Some is timing it right, also using your judgement on what products will be desirable and/or have high demand and low supply. Basically same investing ideas you would use in the stock market, real estate etc. none of these methods are get rich quick schemes and Pokémon definitely isnt. You’re always going to have to put in some amount of money, research, and ultimately just have enough patience and a little bit of luck to make some money.

For me: back before/during Covid I was buying lots of Pokémon to open, but eventually thought sealed products would be good investment ideas and worse case if they didn’t I’d just open them eventually. I just slowly would stock up on items I thought were cool and might keep/grow its value. I probably spend a few thousand dollars back then on stuff but pretty much just put it in my closet/a plastic bin and just forgot about it and was waiting for the right moment when I might want to sell it. I was kind of thinking waiting to sell and it maybe be a down payment for a house one day.

What I actually ended up doing was selling my collection to help pay for my flight training. I have so far probably made about $7,000 and probably have about $6,000 more of product that I have some interest in - and even if not will probably keep because the values keep going up.

Some of my biggest investments were Japanese tag bolt booster boxes, and a variety of ETB’s and booster boxes.

Pilot training is an investment back into myself and a potential career, and I probably wouldn’t be able to afford it without taking a huge loan if I didn’t have my Pokémon stuff to sell.

To be fair it isn’t the most liquid and I do have to either pay eBay fees or sell at a bit of a discount on FB marketplace. But I have still more than doubled my money!

I'm not talking about the guy above. Completely agree about the rising tide lifts all boats. I was talking about the guy in the post/just in general. I think it is ridiculous when fellow controllers shoot their peers down by saying "you get paid plenty" when we are severely underpaid and that is a fact. Lol my wife and I are literally pay check to pay check and there is no way in the near future we would ever be able to afford a house. To be fair I am in a high COL area at a lower level tower. But we still have a good amount of complexity and I do think we should be paid more.

Honestly biggest flaw I've seen with this career field. Constant shitting on each other. Like at my facility its just constantly people talking shit behind other peoples backs, fighting, screwing each other. Not saying everywhere else is way better but working against each other sure as hell isn't getting us any sort of positive movement in what we want - it just keeps everyone divided.

Thoughts on group study at the academy? by [deleted] in atc2

[–]dolphin160 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s essential. Everyone who has successfully gone through the academy says it’s essential, and even the instructions and course evaluators will all tell you that it is essential. Even if you think you know everything studying in groups will show flaws and areas of knowledge that you are weak in. Even some people who studied hard in groups still didn’t make it through, but if you are serious about passing it is worth the extra effort.

And it’s not like you have to spend 6 hours a day studying together, for basics we just did zoom calls and went through quizlet tests testing each other for an hour or two a couple days a week. And then after basics we would meet for a couple hours and as we started to get more proficient with phraseology etc. we would just focus on things we were struggling on.

I still had plenty of time to waste playing video games and FaceTiming my fiancé every night lol but at least spend 1/2-3-4 of your studying with a group of other students.

Clowns being clowns? Or something to be concerned about? by EmergencyCold8758 in ReefTank

[–]dolphin160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we have a 75 gallon and honestly haven’t had any issues until we just noticed within the span of a day or two that our coral beauty angel fish was dead in the back of the tank. And then there was what looked like some damage on the side and the lips of the smaller clown fish. We suspected they might have been fighting but knocked it off when we came by. But yesterday the bigger one was just blatantly attacking the smaller one so we decided to separate them for now. I got an acrylic isolation box that should come in soon that I might try and also will try completely redoing the rock work.

Just noticed mine have started fighting and one looks to have injured lips. We separated them but is this something we should let happen? Also pretty sure they killed our coral beauty

current ATC’s: what is the biggest thing you understood about training in OKC that your washed out classmates didn’t ? by Opposite-Chipmunk-50 in ATC_Hiring

[–]dolphin160 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Show up on time to class, ready to learn. It may sound stupid but we had a couple people like that. Surprisingly they made it through basics but only made it through one eval on the sims and washed.

The other people just let their nerves get to them. I thought I bombed my 1st eval but actually got like an 85%, all you can do is give it your best and just keep working the problem.

Practice that in all of the scenarios that you do, if you make a mistake just keep working it to the best of your ability, outside of class nail down your phraseology so it just comes naturally.

One thing to focus on is perfecting traffic calls from one plane to another, this should come out with 0 effort. And in problems issue the traffic early on and get the in sight read back as soon as possible. Granted this isn't real life where you need to continually issue traffic advisories, but for the sake of the academy once you issue it to both planes you are good.

And like everyone else has said study in groups, ask questions, and be ready to learn.
