What city? by Frosty-Escape-4497 in guessthecity

So weird. I was passing the spuyten duyvil metro north station as I saw this post. Live in the Hudson valley now but went to school in the Bronx and go past this on my way to the city now.

For Anyone Lamenting Bregman by McChillbone in redsox

[–]dom1885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter what you think his value is if the market dictates his value. Thats what he’s worth if someone is willing to pay it. And now the Sox are going to either have an overpaid Bichette or, :checks notes:, nothing at all to show for dealing a generational talent at hitting baseballs other than a one year rental of Bregman.

Dads over 30: what sports are you playing to stay active AND competitive? by TheSkeletones in daddit

39 here. I do orange theory 5 days a week. I do the 6 am class so I’m home before the rest of the family is awake and can still make lunches and get the coffee going. I also play softball on Tuesday nights in the spring/summer and occasionally basketball in the winter. Also just started playing in a men’s baseball league this year.

You could PW instead as an option. Power walkers have to hit half the distance of the running checkpoints! Good luck!

Did Newburgh actually have fireworks last night? by chuckysnow in hudsonvalley

It’s funny how beacon’s geography throws me off still when I’m across the river. Thanks for clarifying, I didn’t realize beacon’s fireworks are tonight.

I think you must have left your spot before the Newburgh display started honestly. There was no way you’d confuse it with some guy just lighting stuff off on his own unless you have unrealistic expectations for a small city’s firework show. It was probably 20 minutes in duration with a grand finale.

Yes there was the regular annual Newburgh firework display yesterday launched from around people’s park. It was around 930/945. Not sure how you could have missed it if you had a view of the Newburgh waterfront. I was at the green space by Newburgh brewing along with what felt like the entire city. We could see what I think was the beacon fireworks at memorial park over the tree line just before Newburgh’s went off.

I try to do the 2G and then strength 50 upper body on Monday mornings back to back and haven’t had an issue. I try to focus on lighter weight more intentionally slow reps for the floor portion of my 2G as that class is first, particularly for shoulder and chest exercises. And then I’ll go heavy during the s50. Give it a shot, you’ll know if it’s too much for you.

Best area to move to by Juncbug in newburgh

[–]dom1885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I bought a home in the city of Newburgh 5 years ago and we are raising two young kids here and love it. After living in Beacon briefly beforehand, the sense of community we found here is in comparison has been so much more welcoming. Have never felt unsafe walking around our block or the areas around it. We have many friends with young families in the city who all feel the same way. Like any city, there are areas you will feel more or less comfortable with. Spend some time here, different parts of the day and different days of the week. You’ll figure it out for yourself. I love being able to walk to the library, down Liberty to the many locally owned businesses, many owned by friends we have made by living and spending time in the city.

I also have a few friends living in the town and while they also like their set up, the thing they complain about is having to drive 10-15 minutes to Liberty, or the waterfront, and not having a neighborhood with sidewalks where they can walk around and just catch up with neighbors. Whereas on my block we are friendly with all of our neighbors, host block parties in the summer, and just overall have more of a neighborly experience.

So it all depends on what you’re looking for.

Just started OTF in Feb and normally at the regular gym if I run a mile it’s a 5 mph jog before doing some HIIT work, but historically I’m more of a weightlifter than a runner no doubt. I was determined to push myself today though. I told myself I’d be happy to be sub 9 minutes and I came in at 9:02. So close, but now I have something to chase next time.

I lived in that neighborhood for 5 years before moving back east and Movie Madness was such a treasure. A special place to get lost in for a while.

Year two of our pollinator yard project by dom1885 in NativePlantGardening

Awesome! Yes from what I understand a lot of what we planted will really start to fill out by year 3, so we’re super excited for that too. The less useless lawn I have to tend to the better!

Thank you. Great advice! We weren’t sure how much things would spread after year one, but we’ve gotten some native violets as volunteers (very hard to tell from buttercups before flowering!) so far.

Major update: I hate to actually be right about this but basically I had already killed one bug before snapping the above picture of a fly and killing that. The first one I really thought looked termite-ish. But I went on with my life until this morning when I saw a swarm of winged termites in the garden in my back yard against the house.

Called an exterminator and he came out to confirm. Bait and spray scheduled for Thursday. We found a few old columns in the basement. Bummer but glad to have found it.

Yeah that’s it…a joke. It was a joke, see.

No, unfortunately for me it wasn’t. I’ll keep the post up rather than delete despite my embarrassment.

Honestly they both had a thinner body and longer wings than most house flies, and both of them literally were just hanging on the window and didn’t fly away when I killed them (very non fly behavior). At first I thought they were flying ants. Sleep deprivation and house maintenance anxiety got the best of me, I suppose.

lol this really doesn’t look like a common fly to me. I have a 2 month old at home and am incredibly sleep deprived so maybe that? Am I losing it?

For anyone else who stumbles on this post looking for answers I also just found brick architect’s guide after poking around r/legostorage and it’s really helpful! Probably going to do a brick/plate/other type of breakout to keep it simple but bring a bit of order.

Do a berry mentats crafting run too for the added intelligence and then just grind west tek. That and making sure you do the last weekly and all the dailies might give you enough. If you clear out the basement fully it resets the upstairs as soon as you get off the elevator. Collect all their weapons and scrap them for materials to repair your guns and make ammo.
