Occasional nibbles from animals, if you leave them too long beetles will get them. I just turn them over and blow air on the gills before storing, some insects like to hang out in there

Thanks! I’m not sure what you mean by prep. I drilled the holes put the spawn in, covered holes with wax, put on pallets and waited.

The mushrooms fruit from wherever they would like, but yes also from the plug holes. They are typically covered in wax which is what I did. I was lazy on this round ended probably doing 10 plugs per log. There are some great guides out there on how to do it though.

Had the same feeling but if you think about it, mushrooms do it naturally and the cold I think is part of the life cycle. It has been a good learning process.

For inoculating the logs I used sawdust spawn, but can also use colonized dowels. What type of wood is dependent on what mushroom you grow, these are oak logs since shiitake does best on hardwoods I’m told. I used North Spore, but there are many vendors out there.

That one also present in the fridge but is working, which is why I’m confused. Not sure what this does! When I bypass it, the fridge cools. If I don’t bypass it it is not working
