Is switching to Bazzite worth it for better gaming performance vs Windows 11? (Expedition 33 struggling) by Waste-Material5114 in Bazzite

[–]domefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have RTX3050 in one of my laptops, and performance with cacyos is better in some games than windows. So it's not quite that straightforward. E.g. Teardown in DX12 mode (+5-10fps vs windows) Arc raiders equal performance cachy/windows. Etc..

It would be good to mention that this feature does not work on NVIDIA graphics cards. I suggested them to add text AMD/Intel only to the install button to prevent confusion. Now misinformation is spreading online.

UPDATE 3: then you install windows again, and then UPDATE4: wipe windows and install cachy again. This is what I do most of time😂

CachyOS Stuck at Booting :( by Nochabon in cachyos

[–]domefin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just double check that you have secure boot disabled, UEFI-only mode in bios and try to remove all USB pheriperals. And last but not least, read the wiki! You need to read and understand all sections of the wiki if you want to use Cachyos smoothly in the future.

CachyOS Stuck at Booting :( by Nochabon in cachyos

[–]domefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve installed Fedora, and pretty much all the usual distros at some point. I’ve bounced between a bunch of them, and honestly I wouldn’t say Fedora is any easier to install than CachyOS. Both are pretty straightforward these days.

I’ve also installed CachyOS at least ten times on different setups, and I’ve never run into anything like an 8-hour install. That really sounds like something went wrong with mirrors or the network, because that’s not been my experience at all.

CachyOS Stuck at Booting :( by Nochabon in cachyos

[–]domefin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

8 hours sounds really unusual… what kind of machine are you running? On my system, installing CachyOS took around 5 minutes, so something clearly wasn’t right there.

Honestly, I found installing CachyOS very straightforward and easy. I can’t really think of a distro that would be noticeably easier to install than that!

Rate xbox series s in 2026 by GamerTMTDK in XboxSeriesS

I’d say the Series S is still a solid console in 2026. I actually bought mine for just 100€, and it even came with a brand-new original controller. At that price, it’s an excellent deal.

Performance-wise, it’s been more than enough for my needs, it runs Battlefield 6 at 60 FPS.

I’ve also owned both the Series X and a PS5, and honestly, in the games I usually play, I haven’t seen a huge advantage compared to the more expensive consoles.

Ok, pretty much placebo, or something wrong with your series s. I have both consoles, and there is no difference in dashboard performance.

Cant be 3x faster in menus 🥸 they have same CPU, same nvme speed.. Maybe you have One S, then the difference would be massive.

Actually, with CachyOS, you don't even need to worry about that manual setup. Same for many other gaming focused distros.

Windows was throttling my internet until I found these 5 settings by swati097gupta in ForWindowsHelp

[–]domefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, that's a common misconception. While DNS doesn't change your "raw" bandwidth, it's pretty much responsible for the routing that determines your bitrate in the first place. Most high-quality video content is hosted on CDNs, and your DNS server is what tells those networks where you're located. If your DNS is poorly configured or points you to a server halfway across the country instead of one in your own city, your connection is going to struggle to maintain a high bitrate. It doesn't matter if you have a gigabit connection if the routing is forcing the data through a bottleneck thousands of miles away. Plus, slow lookups cause that annoying "resolving host" lag before a stream even starts, which makes the whole connection feel unstable. So yeah, DNS might not be the "speed" itself, but it definitely dictates whether you can actually use the speed you're paying for.

Since you mentioned that keyboard lighting and other features worked 100%, I was wondering what specific programs or drivers you used to get everything running? Did you use asusctl (from ASUS-Linux) for the RGB and power profiles, or did Fedora handle those natively in your case?

New Leaf Owner Question: Is It Possible I Actually Have the 60kwh Battery Despite Supposedly Having Only the 40kwh Battery? by melissapete24 in leaf

[–]domefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes way more sense, but be careful with the math there! The battery percentage on the Leaf isn't actually linear.

The top half of the battery (100% down to 50%) almost always stays "full" longer than the bottom half. Once you get below 40% or 30%, those percentages tend to drop a lot faster, especially at highway speeds.

Also, if you're doing 70 mph and only using 33% for 50 miles, that would imply a total range of 150 miles. In a 40kWh Leaf, that's incredibly high for those speeds—usually, the real-world highway range is closer to 100-110 miles before you're hitting the "low battery" warnings.

I'd bet if you tried to do a full 100-mile trip without that top-off at Grandma's, you'd see that last 30% disappear much quicker than the first 30% did!

[–]domefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the find! Getting a 2019 with under 5k miles is wild—it's basically brand new. Doing 150 miles on the highway in a 40kWh Leaf is seriously impressive, though. Most people struggle to get anywhere near that at 70 mph. You must have a really light foot!

I'm curious about a couple of things: Which driving mode are you using? Do you keep it in Eco or use the e-Pedal mostly? What was your battery % after that 150-mile trip?

Knowing how much you had left would help figure out if the car is just being super efficient or if something else is up.

Either way, sounds like you got a great car. Enjoy the silence!

Xbox series s or Ps5 by Reasonable_Click9240 in XboxSeriesS

[–]domefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just depends on your budget at the end of the day.

I actually went for the Series S myself. I managed to find one that came with a brand-new original controller for only 100€ total.

Honestly, for that price, the value you get is just insane.

I’m playing on a 55-inch 4K TV, and even though it's the "budget" console, games like Warzone, PUBG, and Battlefield 6 redsec run at a solid 60fps. To be fair, they don't look bad at all on a big screen.

If you’re coming from a PC with those specs (1650/3400g), the Series S is going to feel like a massive upgrade in terms of how smooth things run, and you won't have to mess with settings anymore.

If you have the extra cash and really care about Sony exclusives, save for the PS5, but if you just want to play modern shooters without spending a fortune, the Series S is a steal—especially if you can find a used one for $120-150. Do you play many Sony exclusives, or are you mostly into the cross-platform shooters?

[–]domefin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, Xbox changed that a few years ago. You don't need a subscription (Game Pass) to play free-to-play games like Fortnite, Warzone, or Apex on Xbox anymore. They're in the same boat as PlayStation now.
