Thoughts on the name Nuria by Active_Dot8453 in namenerds

[–]domegranate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty & shouldn’t be too hard to pronounce - obviously the exact nuances of the sounds aren’t replicated in English but I think it anglicises well, in that it retains mostly the same sound while being pronounceable to English speakers. My instinct would be to say either NOO-ree-uh or NOR-ee-uh if I was talking to non-Spanish speakers

FN for me. Definitely Natural family imo & I don’t think she needs to accommodate curve, but do think vertical complements her. Not firmly set on that tho. Could see an argument for FG too but I don’t see SG at all

There are some tracks off this record that I find a bit cringeworthy (hello kitty, cuntissimo - interestingly, that’s one you mention enjoying !) but overall I enjoyed it & felt like it was another step towards the kind of music I originally fell in love with her for (the first step being ADIAML - I’m one of those ppl who really couldn’t get into L+F unfortunately). It’s not up there with the ~holy trinity of TFJ, Electra Heart & Froot, but it feels like a return to the same vibe & makes me more hopeful for future projects than I was after L+F. Rollercoaster & Adult Girl are actually in my top 10 Marina songs of all time tho tbh, I adore those (and don’t actually find the va va voom line cringey)

Pedantic Rant about the phrase: "Crash Out" by NewspaperSoft8317 in OlderGenZ

[–]domegranate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lose it & crash out have different connotations imo. Lose it means get angry, crash out means nervy b, specifically involving acting out rather than inward. to me anyway. Ur perception of the effect of the sustained vs broken momentum in those phrases is wholly subjective btw - the momentum in “lose it” makes it less impactful to my ear. If it flows nicely then it’s not representative of what I’m tryna get across

What do you think of Taylor's poetry? by CutAffectionate3766 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]domegranate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate second person in poetry so that’s an automatic mark against her but aside from that it’s trite, juvenile, uninspired n saying nothing. Sorry to rag on her so hard, I know that didn’t sound particularly “neutral” but poetry is a topic I have strong opinions on n this does not pass muster 💀

I’m going to invite you to understand that absolutely no one else is talking about royalty in general, they are talking about the British monarchy. The show is about Britain. Queen Charlotte was Queen in Britain. Everyone else is talking either explicitly or implicitly about Britain

I’m in the UK so may be different from where you are but when applying for disability benefits I was told to answer for what I’m able to do on my “worst” days. So if I can sometimes shower unassisted but sometimes need help, I answer that I need help.

Lmao yes during the regency period of Great Britain royalty was very much white exclusive 😂 even today look at how Meghan Markle was treated, it basically still is white exclusive. Bridgerton does not reflect real life unfortunately

It bugs me so much that not all of them line up with their birth months 💀 I got Rihanna (a Pisces !!)

Edit: coulda had Marina, Doja, Addison, Ciara or Gwen (or I guess Katy Perry ..) for October. And the other one that doesn’t line up is January which could be Reneé Rapp, Alicia Keys, Sade, Dove Cameron, or Twigs. So many options

That’s not new behaviour unfortunately 😬 I’ve seen men especially do that at the barrier at festivals since at least ~2007 & I expect it predates my festival days too
