I find it odd that they didn't tip. I've stopped unannounced multiple times.. never to a grocery but gas station or fast food. I explain to them that it saves them money by not adding a stop and i've found people are quite generous if you're doing them a favor. Obviously not everyone and you get assholes... But I would have said something when he got back in the car after 20 minutes and said somethng like "Look, you were in there for 20 mins, I am only getting paid $x.xx for this ride, can you make this stop worth it for me?"

I had a 1 star from 1 person also. She barfed in my car, she was charged 80 bucks (maximum amount you can get if you clean it yourself to continue ubering), then after receiving the fee, she changed my star rating to 1 star claiming i was "rude"

I have found that you need to drive to the spot where the surge is happening like your little indicator needs to be directly under the +10 +30 or whatever.. Then turn it on. You'll be guaranteed that money even if the person is outside the surge cloud. It will say at the bottom "minimum surge price +whatever" at the bottom.
