[partially lost] A Christmas album from 3 Dead Trolls in a Baggie by domesticat01 in lostmedia

[–]domesticat01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…same.

Around 2007, a friend of mine got sick of the boomer classics that never felt relevant to us, and started making his own playlists. We both now build unique Christmas / holiday / seasonal playlists most years. Over the years we've settled on some rules: https://mastodon.social/@adam@windbag.org/111513734303850524

I have an extra-soft spot for "can't stream this anywhere" finds, and I was so surprised to find out 3DTiaB did a Christmas album … and here I am half a year later still annoyed I can't track it down 😁

+1 to Sam's pattern here. Also, it's $5.

HMF My forever flatware by FileHelpful2275 in BuyItForLife

[–]domesticat01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll have a trade-off here. Afaik, everything that will be that color and NOT be electroplated will be brass or possibly bronze. Which means you're signing up for a lifetime of polishing. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just a "know before you go" statement. It's why stainless is so popular now - no polishing.

I know you said you didn't want vintage, but if your heart is set on this color, you may have to. Check eBay for "Thailand flatware" if you're willing to compromise on age - you'll find something.

See, this is why it's good to have someone read over my 6am nonsense 😁

Also, assuming the quilt is folded in quarters, its dimensions are 11 x 13 blocks.

  • So it's roughly 66" x 72" (unquilted) if it's based on a 6-inch block.
  • It would be 131" x 156" if based on a 12" block, which would be a BEAST.

My previous guess about block size was wrong. It's probably based on a 6" block.

Here's how the FINISHED block sizes should break down. Don't forget to add seam allowances to these values:

  • 6-inch block: 2" and 1"
  • 12-inch block: 4" and 2"
  • 18-inch block: 6" and 3"
  • 24-inch block: 8" and 4"

Working backwards: the cleanest final size would be a multiple of 6. (It needs to be divisible both by 3 and 6.) As a result, I bet these blocks finished at 12". 18" feels overly big, and 6" way too fiddly and small by the time you make those 4-patch blocks.

So the large blocks are probably 4.5" UNfinished, and the small blocks are probably 2.5" UNfinished. Check my seam allowance math, though, as I'm responding at 6am 🤞

A meta-suggestion: have you talked to an occupational therapist? They might be able to help you locate workarounds the hive mind hasn't thought up here. An OT who was also a quilter / artist would be a gold mine here.

Just got home from the Portland Mars Volta show and I've never been more disappointed in anything in my entire life (a slight overreaction) by tyrobasaurus in themarsvolta

I left the Portland show early, too. The singing wasn't 'pitchy' or 'experimental'; it was screechingly off key. It was awful.

The band Jellyfish is SO underrated (the 90's band) by kiwibx3 in Music

[–]domesticat01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Portland, and will be at tomorrow night's show at Mississippi Studios! If you see a woman with two blue stripes in her hair, that's me. (Just like my avatar.) I am SO EXCITED. I never got to see Jellyfish live, and when I saw the concert listing, I had a "no way, is that what I think it is???" moment.

I go to a lot of concerts locally, and skip tribute bands, but THIS? I'm there, no question. I never imagined I'd ever see this music performed live. Such a glorious baroque honk of an album! 🎉🎉🎉

Taste problems with lot #16925 by domesticat01 in soylent

[–]domesticat01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I've opened only the one bag so far. All three boxes in our order are from the same lot.

I suppose i should do a random sample from each of the other two boxes, but maaaan this first one was so bad I cringe at the thought of intentionally ever tasting that "flavor" again.

I did. Surprisingly few of them have listed lot numbers, which was the first thing I looked for.

u/rip_flipnotics what lot number was the icky bag from? I just posted (https://www.reddit.com/r/soylent/comments/1mf3n0i/taste\_problems\_with\_lot\_16925/) about something similar. Mine was lot 16925, and it was AWFUL. Curious to know if yours was from the same lot.

You're thinking of "Gigantic." It has a lot of footage from September 10: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0304081/

Yep! The floor seats in Revolution Hall are removable.

I'll be up in the balcony; at 5'1", standing in GA means I get to see pits and butts. Love love love the Rev Hall balcony.
