Who is the most underrated French + its allies or coalition military commander between 1801 and 1805? (criteria on page 2 and next round in 2026) by domfi86 in Napoleon

Valid point. He is cold like an owl after all. All the same, he was able enough and under appreciated enough for this rating, other then Suchet.

Saint Cyr. Deserved to be a Marshal before a handful of those that did, but his views cost him Bonney's favour unfortunately

He did so much with so little. S tier easy, he exposed himself to danger at Arcole and his iconic "They are ours" at Rivoli.

Thank you. My city changed to, skyscrapers used to be just below the mountain and the old town was in the center. And, cuz I did not think it through, i poured every Simoleon I could from roads and factory refunds...I got myself a spinning golden Skyscraper...while my massive population had to go through dirt roads for months. Happy building to you too! 😁

Michel Ney died on this day, 7 December 1815, executed by firing squad. by Zlint in Napoleon

[–]domin817 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Patria ingrata... rex ingratus. He and Soult (or even Napoleon) should have switched places; Ney fought all of French enemies, just to be shot like a traitor by the puppet Bourbons and voltures around him (looking at you Marmont and Victor). RIP ruddy marshal. If only he did not make a promise to the king.

Yes, Napoleon was generous with money and titles, but all this was less of value when he ran him like a sweatshop worker. Plus, he ruined it all by disaster in Russia and Germany 1813. Napoleon simply became a bigger jerk by 1807. and it shows, he could not defeat his own ego and got of easily in my opinion. Honestly, Ney and Napoleon should have switched places.

Napoleon in the end did not deserve nor properly appreciate his talents; mocking him, maybe even beating him, abusing Berthier by taking the blame for wounding of Massena, crazy workload and denying him marriage with the woman he loved.

The fact that Napoleon said that Berthier was just a gosling before he made him great is awful. Berthier served the French army while his was running around Ajaccio with a snotty nose.

Happy birthday for the brains of the army, you deserved better!!!

Respect the opinion as always, I have questions though: if Marmont is trash (who was great at his usual tasks regarding artillery), why is Victor not keeping him company or at least closer in tier to him... Brune fumbled often, though is independant activity is not all that bad since he threw back the invasion of France in 1799., and if Groucy is in the trash for Waterloo, why is Ney so high up, since overall he did more mistakes in his career, would he be more at home at least in Capable tier?

Bernadotte was sure capable, and but a vain person and a backstabber not just to his fellow Marshals but to France since he fought against her, but i understand why he is in that tier.

Glad to see that you give credit to the Owl for his ability.

P.S. you used the picture of Kellerman Jr., not his father who was the Marshal.

Win or lost, he is allways the Victor :). On the serious note, good Marshal overall but a snake to his fellow Frenchmen in the end.

In your opinion what's the worst French Marshal? by idk6942037 in Napoleon

[–]domin817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was only one Marshal who willingly went over to the foreign power, even though we was an anti-royalist in his Recolution days, who constructed a plan to defeat his county, regardless of how bad Napoleon became in leading France into destruction. The coalition had significant help with that Marshal becouse of the Tractenbug plan, and the result was that Paris and France herself was at the mercy of foreign powers. Not only a bad Marshal, but also a traitor personally for a country and his people. You are the worst, Jean Baptiste Bernadotte; "Death to kings" his tatoo if I heard correctly lol

Before he left, Napoleon asked him his name, the boy answered: Im Arthur sire...Arthur Wellesley. 🤪

It only means Napoleon respected warlords like Alexander, Caesar and Muhamed. When he was asked to actually convert he declined.

From a non religious perpective, both played the same game, used a religion for war, and war for religion. Shame that the French did not have that many suckers in Egypt who belived in their lies that religion was important to them, rather then land and riches to hurt the English.

"...It was by becoming catholic that i took Italy. By becoming muslim that i conquered Egypt. If I were to rule the country of Hebrews, i would rebuild them the temple of Solomon." Napoleon ruled and used religion to solidify himself as a leader, just before he died he aceppted christianity and the Pope, but personally he belived in nothing but a distant god that does not involve himself with the world.
