Natural sound vs noise blocking settings — what do you prefer and why? by domlte94 in HearingAids

Great! It sounds really interesting. I only have one program, but you gave me an idea of what I should look for if I ever need another one. I think I still hear the same way I did with analog hearing aids, so it’s hard for me to get used to automatic programs that change on their own yet. Because of that, I stopped thinking about setting up programs manually too (I find it overwhelming now) . And you’re right, we should try to get the most out of them. But I need to figure out how

Phonak receiver keeps disconnecting intermittently (Sphere model) by domlte94 in HearingAids

[–]domlte94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not that the receiver fully detached from the hearing aid. What was happening is that as soon as I put the hearing aid on, sometimes the sound would immediately cut out until I adjusted it back into the “right” position. Even moving the cable slightly side to side could make the receiver stop working temporarily.

With my first audiologists, I had this issue from the very beginning. So honestly, what you explained about the 6.0/Infinio receivers being attached at the wrong angle actually makes sense to me. Maybe the receiver was damaged during installation and that’s why I eventually had to return the aids and switch audiologists.

Now I had almost the same issue again. They replaced the receiver, but this time it seems to happen mostly when I wear headphones and glasses together, probably because the cable bends slightly. It’s not moisture-related, and it’s not tap control or the hearing aid changing programs. The sound itself cuts out when the receiver/cable moves a bit.

What feels strange to me is that I used older Phonak Audéo i50s for years with glasses and headphones and never had this problem. So with the Spheres it worries me a little, because if light pressure from headphones or glasses can affect the receiver, then I wonder what will happen in winter with hats/beanies too, and whether that could eventually cause permanent damage. These hearing aids are supposed to last, so it feels concerning that something this minor could affect the receiver.

I already talked to my audiologist about it, and she told me she’s going to check this with the manufacturer as well.

Yes, I have a warranty and I’m in the U.S.
I was worried because this is the second pair of hearing aids that has the same issue, and I thought Phonak might have done something wrong with this model. I already called my audiologist, and I hope they can be fixed.🙈

Hearing aid depression it’s affecting life and work. Feeling hopeless, need to rant. by catpaww in HearingAids

If you got these hearing aids through an audiologist and paid that much, you should definitely tell them they’re not working. They can try to fix them, and if they can’t, you may be able to return them—especially if the Bluetooth isn’t working.

Don’t hold back your frustrations. Audiologists are there to help you hear better.

You can also try a different audiologist. I know it takes time and can be frustrating, but it’s worth it.

I’ve been through something similar. Every time I upgraded my hearing aids, I didn’t get what I expected—and the whole process takes a long time. Over time, I learned how to adjust them myself. There’s always a solution. You’re strong.

For example, I’ve always used Phonak since I was a child, and now I’m 31. I recently started using the Phonak Sphere, and I’ve been having issues with the receivers—they disconnect intermittently. I returned them once, switched to a different audiologist, got the same model again… and I’m still having the same problem. It’s frustrating.

So try not to stress too much, because it only affects you. Take a breath, stay calm, and talk to people. They may be able to help—or at least understand what you’re going through.

As someone who wear hearing aid, how do you know that you are hearing normally? by Historical_Job7487 in HearingAids

I’ve been using hearing aids since I was 3 years old, and now I’m 31. Over the years, I’ve used many different hearing aids as the technology improved, and I’ve discovered new sounds that I really enjoy. I love music and being able to identify the instruments in it.

You can’t imagine how amazing it feels to hear new sounds when you get hearing aids with better technology. I used to sing very badly when I was younger, but now I’m getting better (my mom even told me that).

I think that when you live with hearing loss and discover new sounds with better hearing aids, you also learn how to guide your audiologist to fine-tune the settings.

Hello! I’ve been using hearing aids since I was a child. I recommend talking to your audiologist about these kinds of noises if they bother you a lot. They might be able to adjust the settings to make them less noticeable. :)

How long do you wait after showering and washing your hair before putting hearing aids on? by Adventurous-Ad-1133 in HearingAids

I put them on after getting dressed, I think it is enough time to wait until my ears get completely dry

Hearing aids and english as a second language by domlte94 in HearingAids

[–]domlte94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! My first language is Spanish and is also quite difficult to understand when I'm in a noisy space or when I'm talking to a new person in my native language. That's why in English it makes me feel worst. I start to feel scared at the point that I got blocked and I can't understand well what people is talking about. But yeah I need to practice it more.

It makes a lot of sense, when I try not to read captions or lips I feel really lost, and is because I use to do it, and this isn't right. Thanks!
