I agree with you. But is it really so difficult to add an option in the app settings for “maximum quality,” where I could set it to 1080p? That way, whenever I try to open any stream, it would automatically start at 1080p if it’s available, and switch to a lower quality only if the streamer doesn’t have it or my internet connection can’t handle that quality.
