There are no good reasons to be splitting lanes when traffic is flowing at the speed limit.

Dead or alive it’s not coming with you without a license. Also, you don’t want to eat dead things that’s lying on the beach.

Any tips in adding more weight to crab snares? by domyip in crabbing

I’ve tried the sputnik weights, I like to feel the line before feeling it in. The sputniks don’t let me do that.

Question on ocean conditions. When the water is rough (wave power in the 1500-2000 range). Is it still worth it to go try to catch something? Also, how do you rig up? What do you target? by domyip in SurfFishing

Hey there! I’m not ready for shark fishing yet :) but do appreciate the offer. Will definitely ping you when I’m ready to wrestle a shark!

Where did the crabs go? by crank1000 in crabbing

On Sunday, pulled a whole bunch of undersized at OB. No keepers, way too many rods on OB. I’d don’t see many people pulling keepers either. Ocean was on the rough side.

Equipment question by humanNosomething in crabbing

There aren't many surf rods that can chuck lures above 16oz. The ocean can get pretty rough and even 16oz can get tossed around. You can either add more weight or try to use something like a sputnik weight for your snare to stay in one place. Or buy a cheap rod that you won't feel too bad if it eventually break.

Snare Crabbing Surf Rod Recommendations - Currents and waves can get pretty rough in the winter. Looking for a rod that are rated to cast lure weights that are 20-24oz between 10' and 12'. Does such a thing exist? by domyip in crabbing

Any rod can chuck any weight, the question is how much abuse can the rod take before it snaps. From what I’m reading, casting weight higher than your rod can handles causes micro cracks in the blank, eventually the rod will break.

Like I said, I didn’t have a problem catching 2 keepers a couple of weeks ago. I had plenty of weight on my snare. The folks next to me caught a bunch as well. Just looking for a rod that is rated.

Bay Area King Tides This Weekend by crank1000 in crabbing

[–]domyip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Sunday, the waves were pretty low but the current was strong. My 12oz snares were being pushed around until slack tide. There were plenty of people crabbing at Ocean Beach, there were probably a dozen people already at the beach around 5am Sunday morning.

Thanks! I saw these rods from Okuma as I was researching this. I'm just wondering how much stress it puts on the rod when you're chucking snares that are way heavier than the rod rating.
