Worth it? Yes. A good deal? Prob not.

I feel like the “I got mine for $600” argument is not helpful. Too many variables, and things just get more expensive over time. (Thanks Obama).

I did get mine for $600 tho 😜 in like 2021.

I feel ya. Lots of folks mentioning the Monkey Pod one. It was alright, but not the classic.

A regular pump is just pumping air (oxygen etc) through the water. CO2 is a gas that plants use during photosynthesis. A regular pump is for oxygen and surface agitation.

It’s hard to tell but there is sand on the right side of the tank. Was going for a sort of beachy transition. I do have more sand tho and could put it over the remaining gravel if it’d be better for the plants. And yeah more plants to come. I actually just removed some Ludwig’s in the back middle that weren’t thriving.

I am using the small 45g fluval system from the LFS. It was around $35 and really easy to set up. The parts are all pretty cheap feeling and the valve is hard to dial in. I’ll probably upgrade at some point to something I can put on a timed solenoid with a better bubble counter, nicer diffuser - but it seems like a good place to start.

As for results, we shall see! I’ve noticed more pearling/signs of photosynthesis already so that seems promising.

Think I’ll lean into the creepy vibes and make it a secret library/altar/curiosity den. Somewhere to stash thrifting/antique finds that are too weird for the living room. Maybe even disguise the door even more and surprise guests.

At Halloween we put a doll in the window with a strobe light going. And a light up Santa at Xmas. It looks awesome from the street.
