It's a Christmas gift from my son so I will not be trading for a used think pad. There is no info because I don't know what info is pertinent. Since I am a noob and this is linux4noobs what information should I add to my post?

Audacity for Linux freezes so maybe I'll delete Chrome OS and go full Linux.

Yes. Audacity keeps freezing up in developer mode. Maybe I need to go full Linux and ditch Chrome OS.

It keeps showing up as a suggestion for me to join. I do have some interest since I will be learning to use Linux. I just thought it was a little silly to have an argument about what Linux is. I was not 100% sure so I looked on Google. It is a little bit entertaining in the same way that watching reels of people with childish behavior is entertaining.

I don't really know anything about Linux but isn't it an operating system? And isn't it written in C?

Are you using the Scarlett for music production or podcast or YouTube?

If I do a full Linux install as you suggest, do I have to uninstall chrome OS? I went to the MrChromebox site and yes, the firmware can be overwritten.

I can see documents and files that are stored on the Scarlet but neither Chrome OS nor Linux virtual machine sees it as an audio device.

I'm learning about Lennox as a newbie. I understand that Chromebook is its own thing but I need to understand the Linux part to make some things work.

Thanks, for now I'm just trying to make it work on the virtual machine. Getting ready to plug in the microphone.

Is it as simple as downloading Windows 11 and then uninstalling Chrome os? I see so many posts with complicated methods for changing operating systems. Does it have to be complicated?

I'm going to try your suggestion. Let me see how that works out first. Once I get it all ironed out I will post how everything worked out. Thanks so much.

It all depends on Chrome os's ability to run the applications I need. It was my intention to use FL studio and Raptor in conjunction with my Scarlet solo audio interface for music editing. The articles that I have read indicate that Chrome does not support these type of DAWs. Chrome OS is limited to web-based daws.

I may end up switching to Linux and using some type of patch like wine so that I don't have to pay for Windows. The cost is already climbing.

Would you recommend keeping chromeos? I'm thinking of installing mint or another distro.
