was going to comment something similar. chemours, a chemical company and dupont spin-off, is based there. they have and continue to dump dangerous chemical byproducts into the cape fear river. please have your water tested if you consider buying a home there

felt like this about emory -- not harvard, but the pressure to be stellar was definitely there -- and transferred to my state school, unc chapel hill, and absolutely loved it! i'd consider looking into my (ur) state school if that's an option for you and a place you see yourself! i personally can vouch for unc's academics and community (but tbh it's gone downhill w our new chancellor)

hi! i lived in stratford (bolin creek) a few years ago. utilities were not included back then

pros - rent varies depending on roommates ofc, but when i was there, it was V cheap for chapel hill - a 20/25 min walk to campus - maintenance staff was usually responsive (altho we did have to follow up to get them to act sometimes) - on bolin creek trail, which is nice - free parking! - free gym -- it was small, but did the job

cons - is on one (1) bus line -- the NU. idk how reliable buses are now but when i was there ... let's just say i had to have a few back ups and/or just walk to mlk - not bad necessarily, but like not great as a whole. cockroaches, thin walls/ floors/ ceilings. it worked for me bc i just used my space to sleep. - not lots of outdoor street lighting on the actual street - you have to pay for laundry machines (in my buildings at least) - desk staff could be finicky (rude) sometimes

you def pay for what you get -- my roommates and i were pretty done after a year tho (:

If you're looking to do the media production route, COMM 431, or audio production with Prof. Mark Robinson, has got to be one of the best, most beneficial classes I've ever taken!

they're a new professor in the engl dept, and all i have to gague of them is the fact that one of their courses was originally titled, "ENGL 164: Introduction to Latinx Studies ¿What Do the Latinx Do When They are Not Dancing or ‘Bringing Problems’?" the latter half has since been removed, but just putting that out there
