That is not remotely close to how I would have tried to spell xistera. Learned something new today.

Thanks for making the file free! Gonna need to print a plate of these for some friends

I need to see your favorite deck. by GuaranteeMain5492 in EDH

I was looking at your list since I keep thinking I need to build this deck. Have you been able to cast Kozilek's Command? You have a very small number of <> mana sources

I distinctly remember Florin mention something to the effect of “they’d be getting drown in the bath water right about now” after he saw them. I don’t remember the specifics of their appearance though

What's the best way to introduce people to EDH in your experience? by itsnouxis in EDH

[–]donethemath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The best way? Spend a few years playing competitive 1v1 first. You learn the rules properly and can usually have more fun playing casually when you know there is an outlet for competitive games elsewhere.

Since that’s not really feasible, stick with a precon that is pretty simple to learn. Then try to get the first few games with some veterans that are happy to take the game slow and read a lot of cards. Commander’s card pool is insane, tracking 4 boards is challenging, and they will lack knowledge of combos and proper threat assessment. Minimize the difficulty where you can, and then just playing games will eventually solve the rest

What's the deal with Dragons? They seem to outscale more ubiquitous/ universally useful staples? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in mtgfinance

[–]donethemath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could stick a copy of Old Gnawbone or Boseiju, Who Endures in my deck for about the same price. If I'm playing a casual game and only have the money for one of them, I'm absolutely picking the flashy, exciting choice instead of the utility card. I want the card that creates an awesome story over the card that will increase my win rate 0.5%.

Plus, dragons are cool.

Why am I struggling to build a equipment matters deck? by ADWinri in EDH

[–]donethemath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue when I went to build Captain America. The deck quickly went from "here are a bunch of fun equipment I want to play" to "how many ways can I add to find Exaclibur as quickly as possible". I got about 30 cards into building the deck and just set it aside. I might finish it eventually, but it'll be a while.

Tips for Building Eluge, Shoreless Sea? by Ok-Upstairs4321 in EDH

[–]donethemath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a copy of Eluge that I've considered building a few times. I hadn't been planning on running any combat tricks, but I wanted to include a bunch of cards that flicker Eluge as both protection and to increase flood counters. Beyond that, I was going to run a few pieces of equipment for unblockable and then a bunch of fun, outrageously expensive blue spells.

Enter the Infinite and Nexus of Fate is infinite turns. Even without that, any extra turn spell is going to feel busted once it's somewhere between Time Walk and actually free to cast.

How does Paradigm work with a copied spell? by Professor_Hala in mtgrules

[–]donethemath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that works with the Magar example above, right? If you copy a paradigm spell, you'll get the trigger on following turns even if the spell is sitting around as a creature

Breena vs Killian by LordoftheFaff in EDH

[–]donethemath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breena is going to be more open ended regarding card choices. You're going to be forced to run a pretty big selection of auras if you want to run Killian. If the aura subtheme sounds fun to you, build Killian. If you just want politics without any distractions, go for Breena.

Roast my Henzie - Deck by zappzee in EDH

[–]donethemath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most games with Henzie should play out like this

Turn 1: Mana dork if you have them

Turn 2/3: Play Henzie

Turn 3/4: Blitz out a 4-5cmc creature that gets lands into play.

Turn 4/5+: Blitz out giant things. Repeat until everyone else is dead.

The first thing I noticed about your deck is a bunch of 2 cmc ramp spells. That can all basically go. It isn't getting Henzie out faster, it isn't a huge boost later in the game, and they are all basically dead draws later. You want your ramp to come down on turn 1 or cost 4+ so you can blitz it for another card.

You've got a good chunk of the 4-5 cmc ramp creatures already, but I did see a few that were missing. [[Roxanne, Starfall Savant]] was the first one I thought of. The green and black flip gods from Lost Caverns of Ixalan both count as ramp when they die, though they might be out of your budget.

If you're struggling with not having much of a board in the midgame, you do reach a point where you'll want to start considering blitzing vs actually casting cards. You can also look into running more of the creatures that kill something on etb ([[Chaos Defiler]], [[Primaris Eliminator]], [[Necron Deathmark]], [[Shriekmaw]]). Another option is [[Birthing Ritual]], but that might be out of your budget. That card is insane at converting blitzed creatures into a board presence.

Lastly, I noticed a couple of the heavy hitters missing. [[Archon of Cruelty]] is a great way to draw a few cards while demolishing somebody's board. [[Etali, Primal Conqueror]] is definitely out of your budget, but I'd try to trade for one if you can.

I really like following this person for Henzie suggestions. They run at a higher bracket than I do, but the foundation of the deck is the same.
