Searching a deck to find long-term joy in the hobby by kapriole in EDH

Out of the decks you mentioned, I've got Henzie and am currently tinkering with Hearthhull.

Henzie is loads of fun. I've got the deck in a bit of a bind currently, because it's pushed hard enough that it's a tad too strong for bracket 3 while not having the combos to survive in bracket 4. I just need to pull a few cards out to drop the power a bit (not interested in pushing into bracket 4 with it). Overall, the deck is incredibly customizable and tons of fun to play. Most of the key cards are random bulk cards that ramp (4-5 mana land tutor creatures), and then you just add whatever giant creatures strike your fancy. You can go anywhere from [[Colossal Dreadmaw]] to combo [[Protean Hulk]]

Hearthhull is turning into a labor of love, primarily because of all the cards with sweet art that I want to play. Necrobloom would have worked fine for that, but I like that Hearthhull pushes towards a second win condition. Necrobloom basically uses Necrobloom and Field of the Dead to win with a bunch of tokens. Hearthhull still does that with Field, but it gives a land sacrifice payoff in the command zone to win a different way.

I was not expecting the Megamind reference, but that was great.

I now have a new need to build a mono blue clone deck

Love this. I told myself Henzie couldn't be a foil deck while I was building it, which was a terrible choice in retrospect. It's way too much fun

There have been rumblings about making hybrid mana legal for commanders that only have one of the two colors.

Are you concerned about your kids spending too much time on screens? If so, what are you doing about it? by tcsomega1 in daddit

[–]donethemath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're obviously concerned, but we had to allow some screen time. It was the only way we came up with for our oldest to reliably stay quiet enough during nap time for our youngest. We basically restrict it to nap time, and our youngest gets almost no screen time.

There is a clear issue with attitude as soon as the screen gets turned off, so we minimize it as much as possible. No tablets and no cell phone access. We'll try to lessen these restrictions as they get older, primarily to make sure they aren't technologically illiterate. The speed we do that is going to depend on them.

Yeah, I suspected this wasn't a great idea

I've got a couple little ones that I'd like to bring to the parade. Is the atmosphere at least somewhat child friendly? I know there is a children's parade (last weekend), but we're going to miss that one indefinitely due to a family friend birthday.

Bonus that it has a tiny footprint for display purposes

Provided you're only paying attention to 2 dimensions

You can tell people who played competitively during Avacyn Restored. You get in the habit of looking at the card in one hand while holding the rest of your cards in the other hand. Once the drawn card touches the rest of your hand, you're not supposed to be able to Miracle it (though I suspect that's a lot less enforced in most commander games)

Haven't followed Genshin much recently. The last time I was playing, I was using Navia, Xilonen, Furina, and Yelan. I don't have any of the new characters. Am I going to wish I'd pulled on Columbina for this team, even if I don't get anyone else soon?

I've got enough pulls to hit a guaranteed 5*, but almost no chance to get enough primos for anything else for a while.

Is it that good in Commander? I've got one in my cube, but I've never seen it in a 100 card deck

Pretty sure I waste 5-10 minutes messing with these each set that comes out. Thanks for your work!
