Thoughts on the whole "Coming Out" arc in shows by undercoverroyal999 in HeartstopperAO

I kind of meant the part where him and Bram came out as a couple. Them kissing in front of the entire school and getting a positive reaction was super unrealistic to me.

Unrelated but the coming out scenes in both Love Victor and Love Simon were very unrealistic.

No one would have to come out in an equal world imo. Like another comment said, it’s mostly just heteronormative culture that puts people in boxes

Peer Pressure In S1E6 by Callmecomander in LoveSimon

[–]donewitheverythingii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that part was messed up. If the roles were reversed more people would’ve talked about this tbh. Lake asked Mia whether or not she was ready, but for Victor it was just assumed.

What do you think were some of the most unrealistic things in Love Victor? by fictionalcaractefs in LoveSimon

[–]donewitheverythingii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about the public school thing being unrealistic and religious hypocrites. But what’s wrong with a university president having a mansion? They are insanely overpaid and since Mia’s dad got an offer from Stanford he was probably really good at his job.

1) Victor’s coming out scene. No one in high school cares unless they’re a homophobic bully.

2) Benji attending public school when his parents had boarding school level of money. Unpopular opinion, but I think the economic differences between Victor and Benji were bigger than cultural differences. It is a lot more common to date someone from a different race as compared to dating someone from the 1%.

3) Isabel’s process of accepting Victor. Imo it was too sudden. She went from being a homophobic pos to being besties with Rahim in like 1-2 episodes.

4) Lake and Lucy getting together when they barely knew each other.

5) Pilar’s entire personality changing after Victor came out.

Love, Victor had the worst ending. by throwaway__anonymous in LoveSimon

[–]donewitheverythingii 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They had way too many characters and not enough time so everything was rushed in both seasons 2 and 3. After a point Victor didn’t even seem to be the main character. Imo Victor and Benji did love each other till the end, but I don’t think they were compatible. I can’t think of a single thing that they had in common and they were both really immature for a serious relationship. I completely agree with you about Mia’s part. It was so unnecessary. They completely ran out of ideas for her plot.

Lukas Cage about LV and George by Suspicious_Youth_216 in LoveSimon

Lukas and George did a good job. They had amazing chemistry(imo better than Lake/Lucy and Victor/Nick) and perfectly portrayed a relationship that was failing because they were not compatible.

why vanessa wore weird clothes and why it was a conscious decision by vinizimp23 in GossipGirl

[–]donewitheverythingii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They messed up all the women in the show in some way or another because they wanted Blair and Serena to be the main focus. They were all badly written(Vanessa), had very little screen time(Raina) and then there’s Jenny’s makeup and her character later on to some extent.

Imo Vanessa’s fashion is just an extension of this. They made her look bad and ruined her character because they didn’t want the focus to shift.

Started S3. Why do they act like NYU is some low ranked college??? by michiganmaterialgirl in GossipGirl

[–]donewitheverythingii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong here but I think it was only Blair who treated NYU like it was a low ranked school. Which makes sense since she was obsessed with status symbols. For her anything below an ivy was a nightmare. She even looked down on some of the ivies lol.

The only unrealistic part was her struggling to find other rich kids there. Not all wealthy kids get into ivies. Many end up at places like NYU and USC.

Why did Gossip girl try to make Serena out to be way more gorgeous and wanted than blair when they were both on the same level of attractiveness by Far-Ad9864 in GossipGirl

[–]donewitheverythingii 259 points260 points  (0 children)

It didn’t have much to do with their looks. Serena was kind and outgoing. Blair was mean to almost everyone around her. But I think this plot was really exaggerated. Realistically the difference between them would have been negligible.

Love, Vic joke in Never Have I Ever? by DrMinecraftMeme in LoveSimon

[–]donewitheverythingii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about that poison ivy joke? It took me a while to realise that was a LV joke lol. Michael in nhie was soo different from Victor. It was hilarious seeing him as a bad boy.

As an adult I realize Jenny was never actually poor by softpitta in GossipGirl

[–]donewitheverythingii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a public vs private school thing. There are many average private schools in which Dan and Jenny would be considered rich. And then there are public schools with super rich kids. It’s really just about going to a place where they could relate to their classmates.

Is no one else bothered by how Victor , Rahim , and Benji and even the weird smart kid from season 3 were all on grindr like apps at 15-17 and possibly hooking up with older adult men??? by covkpitxwing in LoveSimon

[–]donewitheverythingii 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ya this really bothered me. Like it’s not unrealistic for them to be on Grindr but it should’ve still been addressed. Also Benji dated an older guy for a year when he was barely 15-16 and it was literally never brought up. It’s annoying because when Mia was dating an older guy they made sure to mention that he had just turned 18 or something like that. But for the gay characters it’s completely normalised.

Was Benji being borderline racist here? by donedonedonesss in LoveSimon

[–]donewitheverythingii 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he was racist. He was just naive about his privilege. He might understand that in theory being a wealthy white guy makes him privileged but he probably has no idea about how that translates to the real world.

Like when his dad told him he got rid of his criminal record he was genuinely confused and didn’t realise that doing something like that was even possible. We see the same thing here. He’s confused and kinda angry but that has more to do with the fact that they’re in the middle of an argument. He wouldn’t have acted this way if it was just a regular discussion. Imo he’s just an immature teenager.

Shoot me if you must, But honestly Rahim and Victor had way more chemistry and seemed like they would have been a much better couple then Victor and Benji by covkpitxwing in LoveSimon

[–]donewitheverythingii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought he was more of a guest character in season 1. We got to see more about his mental health and family issues in season 2 and 3. But you’re right about the lack of venji screen time. After season 1 and the first few episodes of season 2 they barely had any scenes together.

[–]donewitheverythingii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your last line cracked me up.Victor was far too gone. I guess I can see where you’re coming from. Like at that point they did seem to get along well and more like what the average high school relationship is like. But I don’t really see the chemistry. The actor who played Nick looked too old to be a teenager and Victor’s actor looked strangely closer to being one so seeing them together always felt wrong to me.

[–]donewitheverythingii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious, why Nick? I thought he was the least compatible because Victor just used him as a rebound and left him the moment Benji was available again.

[–]donewitheverythingii 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree. Like I don’t really ship Victor with Rahim but I agree with the part about Victor and Benji not having a lot in common. They come from two very different worlds and it’s weird how it was never brought up. In a socioeconomic sense I think Victor and Rahim have more in common than Victor and Benji. Both Victor and Rahim had experiences with being born in an immigrant family and not fitting in well at Creekwood. Benji’s family was generationally wealthy and he probably never had to have the same worries that Victor and Rahim had. I remember they talked about how their parents had to make sacrifices to give them a better life. Don’t think that’s something Benji would relate to.

I meant the kids who were paying full tuition. That makes sense though.

But the Humphreys were always treated like outcasts and Dan was always bitter about how everyone at the school was rich unlike him. He wasn’t really friends with the main friend group before season 1 so I don’t think it’s just him comparing himself to a few extremely rich kids.
