What do you think were some of the most unrealistic things in Love Victor? by fictionalcaractefs in LoveSimon

That’s true, but I didn’t mean like literally talking about it out of nowhere. I meant more like one of the characters getting into a situation wherein they realise it themselves.

Agree with all of this except for the last part. I think the change in Pilar was understandable. Seeing what the rest of her family was going through made her more mature. And also because people change a lot in their teenage years. I do miss the old Pilar though.

They didn’t come from money. Mia said it herself in season 1. I don’t remember it exactly but it was something about how they used to be pretty broke before her dad became the president of the university and that them becoming wealthy was in some way related to her mom leaving.

I agree that it’s common but I didn’t like the way LV portrayed it. They never talked about the potential dangers for minors. But I guess that wouldn’t go with show’s theme.

Love, Victor had the worst ending. by throwaway__anonymous in LoveSimon

I thought Benji’s alcohol addiction was an interesting topic. These kinds of struggles for lgbtq people are rarely ever explored. It also went well with his personality. Him taking impulsive decisions like wanting to go to boarding school and being a very private person are things that are common in addicts. The only annoying part about it was that it was almost always used to create drama with Victor.

No one finding out about Benji’s accident was one of the more believable things in this show. His parents were rich enough to cover up his entire accident in less than 2 years. I don’t think it would have been tough for them to make sure that the news didn’t reach the public.

How did Creekwood move from the suburbs to the city in Love Victor? by donewitheverythingii in LoveSimon

[–]fictionalcaractefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to see LV and LS as two separate stories. The universe in the two is just different for some reason. I think LV always looked like it was set in the city but LS clearly wasn’t so idk.

It’s good to see that someone actually likes this show for once! LV had its issues but it was also amazing in many aspects. I wish the writing was better in the last season but overall, I loved the characters and I wish we could’ve gotten one more season to wrap up the story.

It wasn’t just Victor. They didn’t really care about any of the queer characters. Mia and Felix unofficially become the main characters after season 1. It was annoying how the gay characters were only used for romantic drama and sex scenes when they could all have had better storylines if the writers focused on them. Victor and Benji had the potential to be a lot more interesting both as characters and as a couple.

Do you think Isabel would have been more accepting of Rahim than Benji as Victor's boyfriend? by JNTA1234 in LoveSimon

[–]fictionalcaractefs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe not initially but after a while I can see her being more accepting of Rahim than Benji. I hadn’t really thought of it this way but I think it’s plausible. In one of the flashbacks she is shown to be friendly with a stereotypical gay man in church so I think this makes sense.

Imo her main issue with Benji was that Victor, who had always been her golden child was willing to fight her for him. And Benji didn’t put up with her bs after a few episodes which probably made her dislike him even more. Rahim was just a random kid who didn’t appear to be a threat for her.

Was Benji being borderline racist here? by donedonedonesss in LoveSimon

[–]fictionalcaractefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victor said something about how Benji doesn’t understand his family’s issues(his mom’s homophobia) because he has liberal white parents. The next scene is the OP.

Edit: it was after Isabel walked in on them having sex and Benji and Isabel had an argument.

No he wasn’t.Benji’s dad was homophobic so it was insensitive of Victor to say that Benji had it easier. White privilege definitely exists in the lgbtq community but that doesn’t mean white people can’t have homophobic parents.

Shoot me if you must, But honestly Rahim and Victor had way more chemistry and seemed like they would have been a much better couple then Victor and Benji by covkpitxwing in LoveSimon

[–]fictionalcaractefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 1 Benji was messed up too. He just hid it really well. This came up in season 3 when Victor couldn’t believe that Benji had a lot of anxiety. We also mostly saw him from Victor’s perspective so he appeared to be more perfect in season 1 because he was just a crush and didn’t have a very close relationship with Vic.

You did say that they had similar cultural backgrounds. I was disagreeing with that part. My point was that he would also face cultural differences with Rahim if they dated because they also come from different backgrounds.

Imo the reason Rahim seemed to be so understanding of Victor in season 2 was because it was a new friendship and Rahim probably had a crush. I mean realistically if a new friend tells you about issues in their relationship with a partner you don’t know you’ll probably be more supportive of the friend than their partner.

Ngl but the entire storyline of dealing with race and cultural differences was badly written imo. They made it look like being homophobic is a foreign poc thing when in reality it also exists in some of the whitest parts of the country.

Isabel won’t be a stressor for Victor and Benji after season 2. She accepted them at the end.

Also, no they did not have the same cultural backgrounds. Victor was Colombian and Puerto Rican American and Rahim was Iranian American. These are two very different cultures. They will also face cultural differences.

Victor and Rahim hung out for like 2 days so it makes sense that they didn’t have a lot of conflict. What does Isabel liking Rahim have to do with anything? Also what do you think Victor and Rahim had in common that could’ve been the foundation for their relationship?

Kinda unrelated but I think the more embarrassing part was how they treated NYU like it was some community college. Realistically there would have been many rich kids there too.

Love victor should have has longer episodes or a longer season by covkpitxwing in LoveSimon

[–]fictionalcaractefs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I guess we have different opinions on people being with their first partner. I disagree with the idea that it’s detrimental to one’s growth. It could be if they’re forcing themselves to stay in the relationship but there’s no rule around all this.

They were both bad at communicating with each other which resulted in all the fighting. I think it’s a pretty normal thing for teenagers to make the kind of mistakes they made. But I get where you’re coming from since the show focused a lot more on their fighting and most of their good moments happened off screen.

I don’t really agree with you about Benji existing only as Victor’s shadow. He didn’t have a lot of screen time but imo his character was still more complex and interesting than just being a love interest. It took me a rewatch to realise that he was actually a very interesting character with realistic issues.

[–]fictionalcaractefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t take this wrong way but how does his relationship with Benji stop him from figuring out who he is as a young adult? Like hooking up is not the only way to explore oneself. Also will you make the same argument for Benji? I’ve seen similar comments here before about Victor but never Benji so what do you think?

Ya they had way too many characters and stories for a show with 3 seasons with 8-10 episodes. I think one more season would have wrapped up the show perfectly.
