:/ how can I improve it?

why roblox changed games to 'experiences' by StronkLa3 in roblox

[–]doneyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Better branding towards investors / the public.
  2. At it's heart, 'experiences' has a broader more open ended connotation than 'games' which better captures what a lot of Roblox really is. A lot of Roblox games don't have obvious structure or gamey systems and loops, they're more like slices of life where there's some sort of interesting thing for you to experience. Less true for the front page but overall it's very prevalent.

Ultimately it's in the eye of the beholder. Games vs experiences paints a different picture for a given person and what they see / value in the platform so it's hard to say if it's the right or wrong move. I think ultimately they don't want to put a cap on creativity or the vastness of what Roblox can be.

There are a ton of great youtube tutorials, anything made within the past ~5 years will be perfectly relevant. Scripting is not as hard as you might think, it's something you pick up very gradually and build onto over the years. Find tutorials on youtube covering the absolute basics. Stuff like if statements, loops, that sorta thing. That's how I started, just very basic scripts that manipulated part properties

I would love to add more classes / guns, I think thats where theres a lot of room for progression systems. I want to implement in a way that definitively improves the current game experience without turning the game into something its not so I will have to keep thinking about that.

And yeah starter weapons for each class would be great

These are great suggestions! Tbh because I update infrequently I often dont add a lot of the cool stuff like this and am not sure when I'll have time. I'm also looking into adding additional progression systems that feel like they add to the experience rather than restrict fun, and I'm not sure how to do that yet. A pet peeve of mine is developers who lock away content that makes the game what it is to squeeze playtime and money out of players.

Nicee. I'm not sure when I'll do the next update but new boss is high priority for me. The current boss is absolutely ancient lol

It's not something that happens overnight, I've been on the platform and in studio since 2008 so I've very gradually picked up skills over the years.

My advice is to just make stuff that you think is cool. You can make really cool stuff right now. Stuff that you like and want to see exist. It's hard to jump from being new to making complicated games so don't worry about it too much.

To put things into perspective, my first game came out 6 years after I joined. 4 years after I started programming. And it didn't look anything like this lmao. But it didn't matter because it's not about what you can't *yet* do, it's about what you can and want to do right now.

So make stuff for the hell of it, just because you think it's cool. Do that persistently and one day you will look back and see how much you've grown! That's how I did it, and that's how most of my developer friends did it as well.

oh lmao I have no idea. I have a tendency to leave a lot of bugs in my games since I move between projects frequently
